Mr. Saswant, it an excellent brain storming subject you have brougt. The exact need of the day to think and implement before the other nations do.

We must look back into our history and the way Automobiles ahve entered INDIA. Only maharajas and likes were able to afford them. What about today's market ? Every one can make their dreams real by purchasing either new ones or the used ones.

So why not the history repeat for the battery (Extra Hi-Tech) or fuel cell cars. At first, they may be absorbed by the elight public. Then the next segment, then the other. Stage by stage the market will accept and affod them. The Manufacturers will also make them affordable in the years to come.

As far as the demand for Bat powered or fuel-cell ones are concerned, yes the demand is evident. Take the case of HONDA CIVIC Hybrid. When Honda Siel have announced the price at INR 22 lac, less public got attracted. But, when the price was brought down, stocks got their wheels on Indian roads. Still more are awaiting the loads to arrive.

Hence, I would put forward to the Auto Industry to act swiftly towards the development of such new tech, instead of purchsing the junks like Land Rover or Jag companies, just for fancy.

Dear Mr Saswat,

As rightly pointed out by Mr Rao and Asmita the market together with its infrastructure has to come a long way to absorb such a technology like Hydrogen Fueled and battery powered car. Right now i guess India is 10 years away from absorbing this technology.

In the current market the best bet is to go for hybrid cars like Honda Civic Hybrid and yet to be launched Toyota Prius (hybrid). These are the 2 proven and tested brands for now.

Moreover government should give incentives to the manufacturers who are producing these vehicles so that they are priced lower and more people can afford it. They should waive import duties for these vehicles as most of them are Completely Built Units(CBU) or having a high percentage of imported components.Excise duty, tax, Insurance slabs also needs to be reduced for these vehicles, keeping in mind that India is always a price sensitive and value conscious market.

We should also be encouraging home grown innovative technologies like furthering the technological competence of cars like Reva and battery powered 2 wheelers too.Their quality and oporational range needs to be bettered too for the public to accept the same.

So if anyone is thinking about marketing a Hydrogen Fuelled automobile or a fully   battery powered car he better start selling the idea for now.

Dear Mr Ashim Banerjee,

In the near future Ultra capacitors and not the battery alone is the answer. In this way we can reduce the weight and the space required just to store the battery.

Then there is special type of an alternator which can even convert the heat generated due to friction between the brake liner and the drum/ disc while braking back into electricity and store it back in the capacitor. These ultra capacitor have such a capacity that if the charging system works properly it can store energy for the lifetime of the car.

Then there are some driving conditions when the Electric motor(which drives the power train) while cutting down on speed ie when you are slowing down starts to charge back the battery or the capacitor.

But one point is to be noted that the Control System to run this show is very complicated ie its high end Mechatronics.

The prototypes are running but there is no huge market for such cars due to the infrastructure and the cost involved. In future we could see there cars running all over as it will help fight global warming.

Reva an electric car worth 3lac + , how do you think will go for it ? Very few right...If the cost of such automobilies reduce  in the future we could see Green Cars whc will no more cause Global Warming/pollution...

yes Mr. Ted has rightly put up there that there are already prototypes from so many car manufacturers and hybrid cars from Honda and Toyota which are already into testing, if there was no market for such cars then they wouldn't have invested millions of dollars into research.

No there is no huge market for these cars, as there is no proper infrastructure developing the hydrogen fuel in the world at the moment and that will be possible only if there are cars of huge quantity all over and one can't see that happening in coming future, so as the debate which is going in this site like hydro-fuel or gasoline, has really good views on this matter...

YES, there is a market for such green cars, and already there are cars which uses this type of technology to generate power to the electric motor...This type of technology cars will no more be a cause for global warming...

with current technology, they already have new prototypes up and running hydrogen , emitting water. We use a high power alternator and/or electronic system to manage the hydro-fuel controls.

At the moment, it is too costly and too inefficent. A conventional automobile engine will run on hyrogen. But a typical car battery cannot generate enough hydrogen to run a car. If you add enough batteries to generate sufficient hydrogen, then you have to added an excessive amount of weight to the car. Not to mention that these batteries have to go someplace. And even after that has all been accomplished, your batteries will need to be recharged a out every 50 miles.
