I do not disagree that scripts are for newbies, they act as guidlines, they are for telemarketing people etc. However scripts still come in handy even in complex situations - Scripts are prepared based on the understanding of any situation complex or simple with objection handling respones, rebuttals etc. Scripts basically emphasise the "presentation preparation" of the sales personnel, the idea of a script is to sound professional not scripted and not forgetting the use of common sense and listening!!!now add strong product/service knowledge a script does work wonders.
Whether it be a professional or a novice - scripts are essential - they give you the confidence, because one is well prepared and eventually becomes efficient, however it is important not to depend entirely on scripts and elimintate reason and judgement!! The idea of detesting them is a big "NO"
I believe scripts and all are good for telemarketing people. As far as sales guys are concerned every sales person has a different approach (I am talking about real good and efficient guys). As far as complex sales is concerned it can not be approached using a script. The relevance of script is not at all stands good in that context.
