Generally an advertisement involves creative mix of varied components such as logo, tag lines, sloganeering and jingles, endorsement by celebrity, use of common man, models or props, cartooning, persuasive qualitative contextual content, orientation of different components of the advertisement, media placement of the advertisement, timing of the advertisement etc. aimed at various purposes such as strategic brand positioning, brand consolidation, selling or marketing endeavors of various products, services or ideas.
At times, it is seen, that logo of a brand is the most effective component that is retained in the consumer’s mind. Sometimes, a jingle or a piece of lilting music or a slogan carries an advertisement more effectively. Tag lines are also proved to be very effective, say “Connecting People” makes an instantaneous pointer to Nokia Phones, similarly effective are “Yeh Dil Maange More” for Pepsi, “Thanda Matlab Coca Cola”, “The Complete Man” for Raymond etc, list is endless.
What is the most effective punch from an advertisement? What is that makes an advertisement really effective and purposeful?
You can rank the various components of an advertisement in the degree of their effectiveness and may provide justification if you like.

Emotions; Mother- Child Relationship
Appeal; As cure or solutions
Images; models' appearance ; Beauty; Composition; Expressions; Photography; Profile; Angle; Movements; Beautiful Models have definite appeal to sustain intrest & Attention; primary for the viewer to retain and associate.
Location: Setting, Backdrop, Nature, Furnishings, ; the location is very important for association of product or service

Logo: Creative; Soft & Not Imposing; Logo is highly important in creating Corporate Image; easy to remember

In todays fast paced world it is the headline and the visual which provides the most effective punch. But again there is one such point because even the medium and the position plays an important role.
If the ad is very creative but appears in the inner pages of the newspapers sandwiched against two big ads, it will lose its effectiveness. So also for the electronic media, there is no point in a commercial coming after a long line of commercials. Either it has to be at the beginning or end of the program break.
So it is a combination of various points that really bring out the effectiveness of an advertisement.
Perhaps people now remember more punchlines than ever before..

6. "Mile Sur mera tumhara" One India ad(old one).
7. "Kar lo duniya Mutthi me" Reliance

10. LIC "Zindgi k saath bhi, Zindgi k baad bhi"
and many others, are timeless ads. just because they catch the common psyche of the society.
