We experienced train accidents in recent winter season due to fog. In 1993 one system was developed for visibility enhancement for train drivers to avoid such situations, budget was passed, but till date no action was there. Record says in these 17 years we had 12 accidents due to fog means due to non implementation of this system, and out of these three accidents in last 4 months which was estimated the loss of property around Rs 336 crores.
After 1993 number of railway ministers completed their tenure, and one of them is management guru Laloo Prasad Yadav who put the railway in profit for 4 years by hook and crook, but never think about these safety measures.
Funny is that IRCON had given the same system while executing their projects in Syria, Iraq and so on...
This budget is also not exhibiting seriousness of Govt towards safety measures.
Govt has full of treasures.... still we are not having good tracks, better connectivity, communication and safety system for railway... why???
By paying insurence amount, which is very less, to reserved seats cannot fulfil the responsibility of the Govt.
Most of the accidents by collition wiith a stationery train are due to absolute negligence and lack of initiative in technology adaptation.
With advanced techonology, it is possible to operate even an unmanned train, by linking the track montoring and signalling systems with computer controlled locomtive over an exlusive railway wireless network. If the pre-asigned track ahead for movement of the train is tampered or in use, the system shall generate advance warning and in critical situation of an imminent accident, the system could automatically stop the engines.
Is it not strange that while everyone boast about India's strength in Engineering and IT, nothing much is done here. With the type of political set up and politician controlled governmnet mechanism, nothing much need be expected. Whie the intellectuals and the industrialist community always blame the government and its machinery for everything, their interest lie else where; exploiting the inner strengths to cater for their business interests internally and abroad.
The loss of life due to minor fire incident in Bangalore recently is a typical example. The buiding itself was ill equippled to meet such emergency situations. At the least they could have kept a rope ladder rolled up and tied to a fire escape in every floor, if nothing else.
