It is widely acclaimed and accepted that people are the most important asset to any organizations and some organization even claim that they are the best in the industry in people policies. If that is the case, then why, whenever there is a slightest turbulance to business or slightest error comitted by employees, it is the people who are let to go or part ways with. Can organization allow eroson of its important asset like this?
I firmly believe that this is true when you build an organization based on talent not on headcount. The organization who believe in increasing headcount come to the state where they have lose their assests by giving following excuses (not limited):
Non performer
Profitability
and soon on.
The Serivce and Product companies here make a large difference. I noticed that product companies are much more stronger as compared to service industry irrespective of headcount. The basic reason behind it is they invest in people not the technology. Even though technology for product industry remains static. For product company an employee should have caliber where organization can invest in them to achieve long term goal of organization.
In constrast service industry main area of focus to execute the projects by any means (even though not valid for every service industry). And when top level of pyramid in this changes there is an torando effect down to the line which utilmately leads to losing of assets.
The only gist to make this statement true is "Invest in talent not in headcount"
I do completely agree with the statement that the people are the most important asset of an organisation. It is been reiterated again and again by the successful enterpreneurs like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. Bill Gates says that his wealth goes out of his company each evening and return again in next morning. Undoubtedly, I owuld say that people are important to any organisation, but, as Devi Kaladeen says it is all about handling the employees in a right way and it is the art of management.
