I think an available datum on 'lessons learnt' from various construction projects could improvize the construction industry as whole. Please contribute your opinion on this issue.
It is no doubt a good idea. But please do note that usually there are a lot of lessons that are collected, but unless there is a way to measure its proactive usage, it would, on the long run be just a database with unused information.
The better thing to do is to translate the lessons learnt as a process/guideline/template/checklist/tool so that it can be effectively used.
Use a Good & well configured ERP lessons learnt will not getlost or usage cannot escape the mind of operatives
A LESSON LEARNT Databae is a MUST for the following reasons : -
1. Continuous Learning and Improvements
2. To avoid repeatitive mistakes
3. To avoid efforts from scratch for a work / effort already made in the past
But SUCCESS of LESSONS LEARNT depends on the following :
1. Categorization of Cases using Keyworks
2. Storage and Sharing Mechanism Employed
3. Trust Worthiness - That is both Good and Bad experiences to be documentated and shared
4. Knowledge sharing Incentive
5.Easy Retrieval and Search Mechanism to Identify the right and only required extent of Knowledge from the the Database to be put in use...!!!
Do's OR Don't /Lessons learnt / Best practices etc are the hard earned net outcome of millions of resources worked on large projects over a large period of time. Data bank on this is priceless and if made available, will become bench marking for each of us for similar projects under implementation,in pipe line or coming in future.
Deffinetly this is very much good idea, but we required authors, and good experienced persons in this industy

I think this is a very good idea. A database with 'learnt lessons' and 'best practices' in major construction projects will help many engineers to improve their competency.
