We have seem many a hierarchical organization. Are they really successful? Do they evoke strong emotions about working in those places? Are people [employees] really proud to refer their organization?
I think the answer to these questions lies in just two words: commitment and compliance.
If I need to choose between good and bad , then I will choose good for obvious reasons. If you ask me to choose between equals , it needs brain storming and may take a call later. But if you ask me between commitment and compliance, I will take the middle path. We need both commitment and Compliance for an employee and employer to be successful. Compliance to the organization culture and commitment to the job is something which will take the individual a long way in his / her journey. Every game has a rule. Rules are not be broken. Having said that we need not structure our organisation in a hierarchal way where only compliance plays an important role. Innovation lies under the carpet. Take for instance the companies like Google. You find both commitment and compliance here.

Should Organizations focus on commitment or compliance? |
I certainly believe that to encourage organization-wide slack so that [front-line] employees have time to think and come up with creative ideas or solutions will go a long way to improve share holder wealth and customer satisfaction. |
Should slack be institutionalized to make organizations more creative and “human”? |
