Soft skills are given more priority than the technical i.e, treating soft skills more mandatory than knowledge of the subject?
One has to have good technical skills only after that are the soft skills measured. If you don't have technical skills you wont be eligible to show your soft skills. One has to have good technical skills only after that are the soft skills measured. I'm sorry Pragati but forgive me for sounding cranky. I'm probably like this after seeing so many situations in life - like many other experienced people, perhaps.
Answer this question: Which part of you do you think is unimportant or does not fulfill any function? I'm guessing that your answer is along the lines of "Everything is important".
In the same way, most things in life are NOT "this" versus "that". Rather, it is - how much of "this", how much of "that", and hey are we not missing "THE SECRET INGREDIENT"? (Kung Fu Panda - trademark acknowledged - salaam namaste.) Watch the movie Kung Fu Panda, if you do not understand. All shall be revealed to you then.
Only if life could have been black or white...yes or no...right or wrong but hell it is actually infinite shades of grey and we have to balance...we need to have good technical skills for someone to consider us for presentation and we need to have good presentation for someone to notice our technical skills.
Soft skills become necessary once u r technically strong. One without the other does not work and I feel both have their own importance. A smooth talker with wonderful manners and totally great people skills can not last in the job market unless he is technically strong in his chosen field. the same applies for people who may be extremely proficient technically but do not last due to behavioral or communication issues.. I believe both have to not only be taught but also constantly reviewed and implemented..practice leads to perfection
It's very important to understand that anybody with great technical skills can only talk extensively about the same.
Vice versa, someone who is very good at the "soft skills" part of it (as many talented marketing people) they can very effortlessly bypass the technical details of a project and make it appear that everything has been taken care off.
All I'm trying to put across here is that there is a certain balance that is being searched in people nowadays, a technical geek who doesn't know how to brainstorm in a team or express his ideas in front of a client is as unproductive as a soft skills guy with scarce technical knowledge.
