Govt. is very much taking care for environment by plantaion, but there two type of trees
1.Good trees,
mainly neem,peepal,etc--they are good for environment and convert co2 to o2 in large scale.
2.Bad trees,
eucalyptus,,imported by Britishers in 1870 to minimize water logging and boogie action.needs much of water for their growth.
subbool, tree brought from Maxico in 1900.this doesn't let any good tree to get planted in its surroundings
Kabuli Keekar-brought in India in 1870-spread very rapidly and convert good residential land to jungle ,its wood is used for fire.
Akesia-brought in country in 1800 , dangerous as above sl.no.2,3(subbool and kabuli keeker)
Pine -self planted in mostly in high altitude on stone earth mountain, covers up vast area, self ignition quality ruined many hilly land and thus balancing of climatic schedule.
Since all these trees as given in head bad trees, growth fast are planted in tree plantation drive.which are not only lowering the water table creating ground water crises but occupying the good fertile land and baring the good trees plantation ,and spoiling agriculture land .
what is your idea on this?
I think trees should not be categorised on the basis of "good" and "bad". Every tree is special in its own way. For example, there are many trees on hilly areas which doesn't do any specific "help" to the environment but it is mainly responsible to prevent soil erosion in those areas. There are some more trees which grow on coastal areas also having no specific importance. But they protect us from many storms. One of these kind of examples we can see in 1999's Orissa super cyclone. Government deforested many areas in coastal plains of Orissa which could have reduced the casualty caused in the cyclone. Because of these deforestation, there was no wall for protection whose result whole Orissa suffered.
Tree plantation is a way of giving back to nature what you have sucked from it. Anyone and everyone can contribute to this effort. If you can coax Corporate support there is nothing like that. Hint to all Corporate employees who have a toddy tree in their factory area> Aside from the basic permission and license fees, you are required to plant 10 trees for every toddy tree that you cut. In my last employment, as Estate Manager, I had to cut around 70 Toddy trees in a newly acquired property. As a result, that campus of around 60 acres. is one of the greenest in that area. If you can get community participation, it will all the better. Most of the 650 odd trees that were planted has a small signboard at the foot "Planted by xxx"" ALL employees were invited to plant one tree. The response was overwhelming.
Hi I support the answer given by Dayanand Deshpande. He has rightly pointed out the trees advantages in different geographical region irrespective of good or bad trees. To add some points to his anwser, trees like neem & peepal should be planted in cities, villages & other dwelling places of human beings since these trees have the qualities of taking more carbon dioxide & giving us more oxygen.
Thanks for the referral, and a very vital topic for discussion.
Trees: For Indian subcontinent the trees should be deciduous trees. These are more in circumference and thus their roots also spread in the same manner. This then results in hold of soil and water. But these are very slow in growth.
Mr.Dikshit has rightly mentioned the categories, and the same should be followed.
Apart from this, what I personally feel is what is the way-out to plant more trees and at the same time make them grow fast. In this 21st century this is where humans have failed…..I believe no technology can make plants grow at a fast pace ……but some method must be developed to cut down the time and make the land more green in a shorter period.
Expert opinion from landscape designers and horticulturist and biologists should be taken, R&D must be done and then a logical and judicial step must be taken.
Very good Q&A session.
Plantation of trees not only relieves land of soil erosion . Plantation of Jatropha, Alovera can help in judicial utilisation of land.
In most of the cities, towns Trees are being felled for road widening . Tree re plantaion can help a lot in maintaining greenary and reap alligned advantages.
