Hi Anurag, according to me there are many other factors than salary which attract people towards IT industry. First and foremost is the interest of people, then may be the growth of the sector and of course a blue collar job. They have better opportunities and may be chance to go abroad also attracts people towards IT.

I feel it is purely the onsite opportunities, growth and salary which attracts the people to join IT Industry. There is fast growth in IT industry when compared to other industry.

1. Transparent Practices (Which is really difficult to implement)

2. Un biased Performance appraisal and feedbacks

3. Effective employee relationship (HRs should be considered as friendly persons)

4. Providing good and safety work environment

5. Fair compensation and incentive practises

I feel that people come to IT industry to fulfill their dream to work in one of the best company. IT industry has a very fair evaluation system and a very good working environment. Most people also feel that with IT sector you can learn extensively.

I have always felt that from the HR perspective, the IT industry has always been different in its approach to HR issues. The industry has successfully adopted many ideas and values especially in terms of having an informal and open work environment and using Performance Linked Bonuses, 360-Degree Performance Management Feedback System and the best would be Open Book Management Style as the key reward mechanism.

This keeps the employees motivated and free from any confusion regarding management. An last but not the least would be the facilities provided by the companies.

Dear Anurag

This is relatively new industry and growing rapidly. It is human nature that we want to be in pace with the growth.

The HR policies in IT industry are also dynamic unlike non IT sector. It has to get adopted with the growing demands of change and needs of the employees. The industry runs purely on the knowledge capability---it is human economics that play more, so you find hourly rate and companies tend to maintain their employees with l;ot of innovation in their HR policies to attract, retain and value add.

Do you find employee unions in IT industry............???????? the reason people are finding it easy because anything that is new will take some to time to get stabilized and this is same with IT industry also. Going forward another Industry will boom.

for instance, think of Mining, Infrastructrure, Aviation and Power. they will rule in near future.

Regards

Dr.Prasad Pasam

Onsite opportunites...could be one of the major reasons apart from salary.

Appraisals on good performance within a short span could be another reason.

As technology keeps on changing and updating..there is a need to put in new brains of knowledge with fresh new ideas in the industry..
