Document mgmt and Knowledge mgmt are different. The very first step is to probably set up a repository. The usability of the repository is very important. The type of business you are dealing with will become a factor. Doc mgmt is a subset of KM. I don't think there are many pitfalls of implementing KM in the KPO sector.
