As Green agenda for construction industry is the topic of the week, so my question is what are the elements that go into building green and going green? So do share your views..
Economically responsible, profitable, & a healthy place to live & work is what green building stands for its important ,Elements of Green building are: 1. Site planning 2. Indoor air Quality management 3. Energy Efficiency 4. Water & waste Management 5. Building envelop design 6. Building system design 7. Integration of renewable energy sources to generate energy onsite 8. Selection of ecological sustainable materials.
Important element in green building is maximum conservation of energy through building weather proof, well ventilated ,Eco friendly and a building which may have minimum pollution.Maximum natural sources are utalised for lighting, cooking,conservation of water is also a factor.
Energy Efficiency
Passive design strategies can dramatically affect building energy performance. These measures include building shape and orientation, passive solar design, and the use of natural lighting.
Developing strategies to provide natural lighting. Studies have shown that it has a positive impact on productivity and well being.
Installing high-efficiency lighting systems with advanced lighting controls. Include motion sensors tied to dimmable lighting controls. Task lighting reduces general overhead light levels.
Use a properly sized and energy-efficient heat/cooling system in conjunction with a thermally efficient building shell. Maximize light colors for roofing and wall finish materials, install high R-value wall and ceiling insulation, and use minimal glass on east and west exposures.
According to me the most important element for Green building and Going Green is to have a proper site location, which is near to the Mass transportation and by which one can cut down carbon emissions from the vehicles that are used for construction.
And even after the construction if the site is well connected to the mass transportation system one can use public transportation rather than their own vehicles, by which they can reduce carbon emission and can contribute towards the Green cause. So proper siting is very important to go Green.
