What are the skills a new comer to the industry should possess so that he/she manages to stay undeterred in the industry in the context of present scenario (IT slowdown)?

It should be Confidence to deal with problems , really good knowledge of what ever was there in your academics at least in highest degree , and finally a best luck amongst persons interviewed with you...    

" Adjustable , Punctual , Time management,Multitasking , Eagerness to learn new technologies , Problem solving skills and Dedication to the work" These are the basic things fresher should have otherwise its hard to survive in this situation of IT .

Good answers Satish and makrand. And let me add some points to it. As a fresher you should know how to adjust and manage the work given to you. Do your work perfectly and improve your performance gradually this will create a good image for you at the workplace. Then alway try to learn something  and be frank to give your opinion. These things will help you to retain in that company.

Create an impression around you that  you are the one who can solve this problem and no one else, and do things street smart and not the routine way, which keeps people interested in you all the time, and important to have varied knowledge on most of the subject....Attitude is what it takes you where you want to be, and with the current situation with recession, one needs to have knowledge on so many things, the kind of requirements i am seeing in the Industry today is like one hardly finds them...its like organizations want people with knowledge and experience on various things and not just on a single domain....so be equipped with all skills and be more visible....
