In India, where people never ever thought of going to a AC room for there vegetable buying are not going in for stores like Reliance Fresh, Spencers etc. So what effect will it have on the locals, who are neither educated enough to get another job nor they have the financial power to match these giants.
Both Gaurav and Ajay have got it right equally.
Kirana stores will indeed stay for the very simple reason as stated above - personalised service. If i may add further to it - A kirana store owner may even go out of the way to source some rare commodity for you or may even extend short term credit. A kirana store gives you sample for you to try out before buying in bulk. For eg. a kirana store owner will give you a handful of rice as sample for you to try out before you can buy in bulk. However i do not agree with Gaurav when he says Kirana stores will be expensive. It is to the contrary - Malls may give some discounts at a particular time but not always. Kirana stores are definitely a lot cheaper and dont forget the great indian pastime - bargaining. This is possible only at the kirana store.
The only good thing about Mall Stores are the pleasant shopping ambience and the wider choices. Try bargaining at a Mall store or asking for a line of credit - you will be thrown out and permanently banned.
I am yet to come across a mall store that is cheaper than my favourite neighbourhood kirana store. I am for the Kirana store anytime and the mall stores for time pass and the air conditioning on a hot and sultry day.
If i were to look at the positive side, mall stores should definitely motivate the kirana stores to provide better quality and wider choices. Forget the air conditioning, when i am rushing to buy my daily or weekly supplies, i am more bothered about finishing my purchase and going back to the IPL match on TV rather than revel in the air conditioning and browse around the shelves.
I beg to differ partly. Mall stores offer deep discount, greater variety and independence of making choices, which smart buyers are quick to grasp. On the other side of the spectrum"kirana" stores have higher prices and do severly restrict "browsing" shopping. So my take on the issue is that people would choose neighbourhood kirana stores for occasional needs (like running out of sugar, etc.) and do more shopping from the "mall stores". It might even translate in to people planning their weekly or monthly shopping needs and doing bulk buying. This situation would open up Indian retail scene to "bulk-retailer" type malls like Sams Club or Costco in US.
Kirana Stores, I'm happy to quote, "Will Stay"!!
This is purely to the fact that the personalised approach & Approachability make them a part of everyday life of the family.
A mall-outing can be an occasional one but everyday needs are difficult to Hoard but on the other hand give a push to Kirana Stores to Upgrade themselves..
We are increasingly comming accross Kirana Stores Converting into A.C. Departmental stores..
Customer Shall Rule.
Amen!!

i don't think its a Kings rule, as every body are not from political back ground, most of them have started their political careers by them selves, its just that most of them have not got cabinet seats or minister positions, so most of the young... |
Even i agree with swapnil as community computing is the way to go as there is more redundancy in the department computing...and this should be the change by which there is no dependence on the government. |
