Please suggest either books or white papers and reports which are available for free on-line, and also from your experiences.
Assuming you do not have any background in statistics and have no idea about tools such as neural networks, clustering algorithms, then I would suggest following books - very reader friendly, and non-technical explanation of complex technical items.
Data Mining Techniques: For Marketing, Sales, and Customer Relationship Management [Paperback]
By: Michael J. A. Berry (Author), Gordon S. Linoff (Author)
Mastering Data Mining: The Art and Science of Customer Relationship Management [Paperback]
By: Michael J. A. Berry (Author), Gordon S. Linoff (Author)
Besides this, it would help you a lot if you can brush up your knowledge of the tools mentioned above, and in addition, have a strong understanding of logistic regression & time-series analysis.
The Best way to learn it is not to read about it but do it. Talk to people about what you are doing. Take your time, especially on your first few projects. Find ways to double-check your results. At the same time start with books which are light in theory and more on practical. I will suggest "Data Mining: Practical Machine Learning Tools and Techniques" by Witten and Frank.
- Create a confidential Career Profile and Resume/C.V. online
- Get advice for planning their career and for marketing of experience and skills
- Maximize awareness of and access to the best career opportunities
