What causes efflorescence and how can it be avoided?
Efflorescence can be defined as the deposit of soluble compounds carried by water onto the surface of a building.
In simple terms, Calcium Carbonate is a by-product resulting from an interaction between the cement, weather and atmosphere
As the concrete cures, some of the water reacts with the cement to produce Calcium Hydroxide, which, being water-soluble, can come out to the surface of the paving unit during the curing process, and when the water evaporates, the Calcium Hydroxide is left behind.
Hi Pradeep
Normally on plaster surface this will come by using impure sand. in the market plenty of materials are available to remove it.
A white fluffy surface depositing caused by sodium salts in the plaster (Brick or sand) beeing drawn to surface , moisture evaporates and effloroscence appears. u can remove it by dry brush also.
Efflorescence is a type of discoloration. It is a deposit, usually white in color that occasionally develops on the surface of concrete, often just after a structure is completed. Although unattractive, efflorescence is usually harmless. In rare cases excessive efflorescence, within the pores of the material, can cause expansion that may disrupt the surface.
Efflorescence is caused by a combination of circumstances: soluble salts in the material, moisture to dissolve the salts, and vapor transmission or hydrostatic pressure that moves the solution toward the surface.
