My friend's father told me once..
Look for these five qualities (1) Status (2) Stature (3) Culture (4) Education and (5) Family Background.
At least 3 out of the 5 must be present in the other person to be qualified for friendship?
He passed away. My friend too left the world. But I remeber those words.
What is your opinion ?
I am not sure how many among these 5 qualities people have to have in uniform to be good friends... but yes, some uniformity has to be there - one Mr. Rama cannot be a great friend of Mr.Ravana, because of all of these(1) Status (2) Stature (3) Culture (4) Education and (5) Family Background's differing too much to bridge the gap between in there cases (I don't judge Rama and Ravana traditionally as good and evil). Sharing from personal experience - I have read of Lion-mouse friendship in fables only - never seen one. Another thing I want to point out is -we Indians generally tend to refer everyone as 'friend', rarely distinguishing between 'friends', 'acquaintances', 'neighbors' and 'colleagues'. That way everyone in the world becomes a friend...and 'friendship not possible' becomes a 'shocking expression' to many of us.
I don't agree, everything is misleading, do not think whatever your friend's father or your father said is or was right. I contradicted view like Family background. I am not allowed to marry outside my community which my parents are strict about it. Status will encourage ego and ego is bad in any sense. Culture! OH Yeah! Culture, if you respect other cultures than your culture will be respected. I don't think education is very much essential, we need knowledge, Education is just a system which from time to time will change in accordance with the situation, time and place. Good Educationist are not that knowledgeable. Most of them are hit by their attitude and ego. Your friend's father also learned it within the society he grew up and now he is doing the same thing his father did to him, passing on the legacy to the children, right or wrong does not matter, as for him it is right and for you is to decide since you have your own brains and analyze. You said three out of five must be present in a person, you see, you have come a long way by not accepting all the five things your friend's father has said since, you have your own brain to think and ask and to seek the "REALITY".
Murthy gary..it depends on the interpretation of words...For friendship how Family background depends ..For this I have a small story..Prahlada the son of Hiranyakashipu..To make friend of him we cant if we see his background family...
So friendship purely depend on the Character of a person...Education doesn't give character...Culture may be a little bit .......
The context is not clear. To be a friend, one needs mutual trust and respect.Status and stature are identical. The status/stature plays a role when in business. The culture is by product of education not necessarily formal education. The family back ground is insignificance,if it is love at first sight. In to days world egocentric loves status or stature.
Thanks,Virag for referral.
Sir, as per my point of view " Culture & Family Background " are such words which covered all the other things status, education, stature . Culture & Family background are small word but wide meaning which include lot of things. And we must have to consider & remember these two word for not only qualified friendship but also live good life...
Nice and thanks for referal murthy sir..

Vinoy Ji a learned and pragmatic person should not have joined the debate on the wrong side. Let us give the fair sex, the freedom, security and support and see what happens. Nothing is going to change in a day! Let us support them for their fight in... |
In India - Religion must stay away from politics. No place for religion or religious gurus in politics. No second thought about it !! |
I am not fluent in Hindi. Being a Sanskrit student (in my child-hood days) I am able to read it and grasp the essence of it. Good and nice poem !! |
