leadership, in my opinion, is something which is largely inborn or developed. you have to have the personality which wants to be out front and in charge, some have it, some don't. you can take courses until the end of time but there's no real substitute for experience - if you want to be a (better) leader you have to be leading something. the only thing which is really helpful is to spend sometime yourself under an outstanding leader and learn from that person's example.

It’s all about you, not the coach, not the book, not the program. If you’re reading a book or listening to lectures on leadership, but you don’t actually do the work and it’s like watching a Hollywood thriller, not you doing it! To become a better leader, you must have the fire within to change, do the actual work, and–this is key–have the humility and courage to discuss your progress with a colleague.

You can develop leadership skills by attending seminars of leadership skills, & by duplication of your known leader, or you can get handful knowledge by reading books & biography of great leaders.
Or you can become leader by creating your very own & unique style.
