Amount / money used to get an additional income is known as " investment ". For Example amount invested in assets,securities,postal schemes,bonds,treasury bills,mutual funds,band deposits etc
Private equity is self explanatory word where some part of the equity is invested by the company/individuals/firms etc to have a control in the management or to start a new venture / joint venture but the private equity investment is very high investment in nature .
Investment for a lay man is the money invested in certain investment vehecles like Fixed deposites in the banks or companies,Scurities,Mutual Funds,Bonds etc.with a view to earn returns at a pre determined rate during a pre determined period.
Private Equity is the vehecle used by investors to park money in the form of equities in private companies.
Both investments have risk and reward potential.
I would like to take the Investment Part of ur question and wud like to be a little more specific as to what it means
Investment means putting up a sum of money in a particular venture, asset etc for a specifed period ,in order to expect some return with some return attached.
Hence following are the features of an investment to be qualified as an investment
1. Done with a view to earn return.
2.Has the risk attached.
3.Done for a future time and the time is generally known
