The basic point (as asked) to achieve project milestone is - "do things right"
We need to perform certain tasks to reach a milestone. To perform these tasks we need to understand that following are well in place:
- scope of work clearly defined
- risks are captured and response plan defined
- right resources (human & material) are available
- everyone understands their roles and responsibilities
- perform only the required work (only what is defined in scope of work), no gold plating pls.
- team is motivated
- communicate and communicate
- perform periodic reviews of scope, schedule, budget, risks, open issues
- perform quality reviews
- take sign-off on all internal or customer deliverables
