We are bascally looking at a scenario, where services are specialised. The Enterprise focusing on it's core business and IT infrastructure & software occupying a seperate space and focusing on it's own specialization and rendering a service to the Enterprise. In house IT personnel of an Enterprise would be focusing on IT requirements within. Basically, maintaining an IT infrastructure, including software, is not the core business of an enterprise. But the expense of doing so is conspicously reflecting in the finacial statements.

If businesses find purchasing a fleet of cars, and then incurring expense on salaieries & benefits to drivers, maintainance etc., a financial burden, the obvious solution will be outsourcing the service. It amounts to specialization of services, leading to efficiency and ultimately economic growth for everyone concerned. A very positive impact on IT infrastructure & software service, they get their own independant entity.

Well IT has evolved enormously and in really different ways, thanks to the economic downturn and to the competitive bidding environment that's prevailing in the market today. One of the major restructuring that we are seeing  today in most of the Indian IT companies is the emergence of what is called as the shared services . This definitely is a way of staying competitive in the market in terms of the cost, but its has got lots of other benefits as wells.

And here's were Virtualization finds its future instore. One of the basic ideas of shared services is as the name suggests to have the resources shares and used  optimally. Virtualization makes this possible in the best way. Virtualization not only helps in reducing the infrastructure costs but also ensures that if there is spare capacity at its disposal, if there is any then its used by other projects. Hence considering the testing times that we are put up with today reducing operational cost  is high on the agenda of most of the corporate, virtualization surely is the way to go.

It is really good points to be raised  about Server virtualisation, Virtualisation is now becoming prevalent throughout the IT stack.

Virtualisation will provide some basic efficiencies, but it is the enablement of much more comprehensive automation and management solutions that really drives the high business benefits.

Service Management will become much simpler with virtualisation really enabling the flexibility of infrastructure to respond timely to changes in the business.

This virtualisation does come with some risk, it is possible to lose fundamental understanding of what is running where and so needs to be underpinned with comprehensive configuration management, including all the relevant service and security policies
