It is the matter of making the market survey of the   locality and the area to know the needs of the people. Because needs vary from region to region. But then there is no denail of the fact that the range of the product is the guiding force for the success of retail stores. Then scheme on the products will certainly help in growth of the store. Sharing the success and profit with the customer pays in long run.

Visual Merchandise, Planogram (as suggested by reji), Product width & depth suitable to the catchment area, participation in promotion by Mall (if the shop is located in Mall).

It depends on the format of the store. All factors being equal it is the range that can boost your sale rather than the schemes. To design better schemes, there has to be a good product range

Sales depend on the foot fall. Schemes are designed to increase the foot fall and convert visitors into customers. But the fact is that the schemes are not permanant and they are usually for short durations. Where as good complimenting range also can generate foot fall, it has an added advantage that is it is a permanant service that you are providing to the customer.

both contribute to the increasing sales. it all depends on the store to achieve it through these lines. aggressive advetisement on the schemes and eyecatch display of the range of the prducts in store ( where scheme products are at eye level ) and the willingness of the staff to promote the range of the itemslike cross selling at the check out registers.

yes - as reji said, planograms can keep you armed with the basics & beyond that one has to have the range of products that is expected/preferred by the local catchment population - schemes can help mostly in push-sales when customer is attracted more by the offer and is willing to compromise on his preference. retail is all about being open for 24x7 change...every store behaves differently in each locality and hence going by a basic template may not work at all....

most important is the planograms.Apart from that a detail study has to be done of the culture of the customer. If the retail store is located in say mahrashtra one has to study the likes dislikes very carefully.

Walmart the no.1 company was a failure in germany and korea and one more country. One of the reason was the germans did not liked the word may i help you they look suspiciously.Another place the failure was because shopping was done by the whole family.so the palnograms.
