Sales management is a narrow field which involves sales and sales related activities like- preparing sales reports, order collections, stock checking, managing retailers and whole sellers......... Marketing management is a broader concept which involves a proper process which starts from finding out prospect consumers, studying his/her needs, producing product, developing marketing and launching strategies, promotions and advertisement and finally feedback collection

Sales inolves the actual selling of thje product whereas marketing facilitates the selling. As a sales manager you need to know your targets and achievement on a daily basis. Marketing is involved in marketing or informing the public about the product.

Very often companies confuse between the two and advertise for a marketing manager whose main work would be in sales. A marketing manager can switch over to sales if he possess the basic selling skills but a sales manager cannot switch over to marketing because of the intricacies involved with regards to branding and MARCOM.

The sales management focuses on products selling and promotions to earn profits through sales volume. The marketing management focuses on customer needs with integrated marketing to have profits through customer satisfaction.

The sales concept starts with the company's existing products and the marketing concept starts with the company's existing and potential customers and their needs.

So the marketing concept is a customer orientation backed by the integrated marketing  aimed at generating customer satisfaction as the key to satisfying organizational goals.

Marketing is Input. Sales is Output. Analogous to a computer system, if business environment represents a computing infrastructure, business enterprise is an operating system, Marketing management is its CPU process and Sales management is process that renders output to various output devices.
