General physician play an important role in treatment of a patient. They are the one who work at the grass level by carrying out clinical investigations to determine the disease the patient is suffering from. He collects all the information and provides it to the specialists which makes his work much easier.

GP is suitable for an initial investigation of a medical diagnosis and later in-depth diagnosis can be handled by a specialist. I believe that both of them have an important role in term of medical assistance.

a GP is a family doctor, who is well versed with the history of ailments of every family member.he is normally jack of all trades and master of none due to the nature of his degree. a GP is a great link for a specialist when the nature of disease is serious and a MD (specialist) is consulted - at that time even a specialist refers to the GP to understand the patients history and line of treatment. unlike a specialist a GP charges lesser consultation fee, depends more on clinical experience to diagnose and decide treatment unlike a specialist who would invariably refer a patient for numerous investigations and tests may be hospitalization to reach a proper diagnosis thus increasing cost of treatment. a GP is always available in case of emergency, and is easily accessible unlike a specialist. lastly ego is also a factor which separates both, when it comes to striking a rapport and seeking explanation.

A general physician can give you all sort of treatment for almost all types of illness since they are trained like that. Where as a specialist has specialized in certain area ( eg: Medicine, Surgery, Skin, Eye, Gyn, Paed. etc.) and he can give you best suitable treatment available for a particular disease.
