But if you listen, You may learn something new ....

The above sentence hold true to the level of a manager (in a professional ladder), In the above statement it is assumed the speaker is more knowledgeable then the listener.
We learn through our senses and express it using one or two of them, It purely depends on the ability of a person to learn and express himself, the findings may be innovative may create a new paradigm in any sphere of human capability yet un-endeavoured.
Listening is an ability to get into others world of expression as is where is, that is not imposing your opinion, judgment, prejudice etc. which is difficult but not impossible, it’s a skill.
In early stage of life listening is comprehension and reproducing or editing of what was said for getting those 10 out of ten and mam is happy.
When you start listening you have grown up. By then maybe you’re a creative writer novelist Entrepreneur innovator in short a Leader. Then when you speak the world listens.
If this is referred to underline importance of listening skills, I would accept it. No arguments.
I would often tell my son, not to lose an opportunity to teach his classmates. In this case, 1. He is preparing mentally 2. He would reshape his talk depending on his perceptions about the listener 3. He would rephrase what he has learnt in his own impromptu way (This is difficult compared to writing a piece..).
Each of the activities have some significance. We should listen when some one is contributing knowledge. If we can, we should speak too.. Such speech not only enriches the listener, but consolidates in our mind what we knew in an abstract manner.
Inhibition is a psychological problem when you cannot talk. Psychoanalysis attribute too much inhibition to too much masturbation during childhood, which inhibits a person when he grows older. Inhibition also occur due to too much erotic thinking during childhood leading to ego formation, where one fails in communication.
So if you find it difficult to talk reason can be due to this libidic energy malfunctioning in oneself.
Yeah, that is why freedom of speech is given so importance. And why all the developed countries have it embedded in their laws. The patience and tolerance to hear someone helps you amend things, so that a law isn't generic, but fulfills the need of every person.
No matter what one says.. it must be heard. It also solves the problem group dominance, by giving right to the people being dominated.
