I personally think that the mobile social networking is just an
extension for other networking. It does not have value in it self.
As an example of workable solution which is in use already. A
person uses IRC / Google talk etc. on PC to talk with the friends. But
when it's time to go to the airport, he takes his Internet
tablet/mobile terminal with him and continues the talk when in taxi.
There is no interruption in the chat, other users don't even see that
the location has been changed.
Mobile social networking can also mean other basic services like email etc. To be connected while on road.
Currently mobile web browsing is not really usable. It's ok for checking some facts like train time tables, but otherwise no.
Mobile social networking is social networking where one or more individuals of similar interests or commonalities, conversing and connecting with one another using the mobile phone. Much like web based social networking, mobile social networking occurs in virtual communities. A current trend for Internet social networking websites such as MySpace[1] and Facebook[2] is to turn mobile. There are two basic types of mobile social networks. The first is companies that partner with wireless phone carriers to distribute their communities via the default start pages on mobile phone browsers, examples are those operated by Atchik-Realtime, JuiceCaster, Jumbuck, and AirG. The second type is companies that do not have such carrier relationships (also known as "off deck") and rely on other methods to attract users, examples are [[MocoSpace], Next2Friends, Reporo and Bluepulse. Advances in software technology have facilitated the existence of these mobile virtual communities. Industry wireless network technologies include SMS, WAP, Java, BREW and i-mode.
