What tactics Social Networking web sites must employ to add to its membership and more importantly retain its popularity?

Some of the often tried tactics are as follows:-

1)      Maintain good quality of content (Articles, News etc), content submission and ease in navigation facility

2)      Advertise on Internet, Print Media or Television

3)      Encourage the members participation by acknowledging their contribution

4)      Reward the participants with cash or gift vouchers for their contribution

5)      Regularly put various contests, quizzes, topic for discussions etc for member participation and reward the participants with cash or gift vouchers

6)      Organize seminars and get together for members time to time

7)      Post Jobs and business opportunities news and advertisements

8)      Any other (specify)

What mix of the above (or any other tactics) could work?  If you please, rank the tactics in order of their strength in formulating strategy for popularizing a Social networking or a community web site.

1. must involve in social welfare activities physically and make its members to participate in it.

2.  allow free sms uninterruptedly among the friends on the network.

3. most of the members are students, so these websites should conduct campus events that can attract and retain the members.

Personally, I would not like to see another social network. It's already a social media overdose. "Unless" there is some unique concept that is bit different from what you are trying to say, it is just impossible to get its own share of people.

We have loads of social networking websites like facebook, orkut, twitter etc & all of these have almost the same features. Even the users are common which actually cost the advertisers more as they are targeting the same users but in different website.

anyways to add more members n retain its popularity , i feel few things to be considered as mentioned below.

1. site must be clean n user friendly.

2. it must have different features w.r.t. different user group like social dating, jobs, games, matrimonial , classified etc.

3. it must not breech the user privacy by any mean direct or indirect.

4. it must sound and must be more like an open source application.

Social media has been a superhit on the internet and today nobody can ignore it. However, it must allow its members more freedom. Spamming is no doubt a cyber crime but if somebody is giving away something free to the members of a group / community then it should be allowed.

For example, a professional always likes to remain updated in his chosen domain. A good number of free stuff exists which certainly is not known to many. So, if something of this sort is announced or published it must be allowed.

From this view point, you can check this link and let me know if you've not liked it, provided you're a professional , of any field / domain:
