We know that in US we have store where you get everything at a price of Dollar 1. Such stores in the name of Rs. 100 store are coming up in India. What do you think is the future of such stores in India. Will they be successful. If 'Yes', then why and if 'No' then Why Not?

Dear Mr Majumdar

Ones again you have asked a good question,

In my answer here, I will like to share my experience with all dear members, As one can see in my profile I own a retail showroom {greeting card and gifts}. I had a competitor which was on, one dollar store format. The only difference was that they were having two prize ranges 49 and 99.I will like to tell you here that they use to attract many customers with their name but the problem was that their range was fix if any customer was needing some thing more or less then 49- 99 they were unable to provide, for an example if you want to buy a key ring or just a chocolate or a vary small Ganesh Idol for your car all the three things mention were available at lower cost then Rs. 49 with my store, same was with the higher segment also. So we started giving them a very tough competition and we pushed them out of the market, they were older then my outlet in the area, my retail is on the upper ground and they were just   below my outlet so I got a good advantage of there 49 -99 name but easily defeated them with entire price range not any particular price segment, so the same case study apply on every dollar store, may be they will survive, but I don’t find very bright future of dollar store.

Happy selling!!

Hi

The Rs.100 Store surely will not be so hit in india. I doubt on its success.

Indian buyers are going around different shops to buy different types of products. They prefer to go to individual places for their needs. For daily/monthly grocessries/consumables  they love to Food World, Spencers, Big Bazar, Magna, Heritage Fresh, Reliance Fresh, etc. For clothing, they love to go Raymonds, Pantaloons, Life Style, Shopper Stops, Park Avenues etc show rooms. Still shopping malls are not very hit in attracting buyers except eatries outlets. Shopping malls have good visitors but not real buyers.

In India, Rs 100 will not get good number of options for Indian buyers as value of Rs 100 in India is very less compare to $$ 1 in US. You can't but one branded Deo Rs 100 in india.

Hi

Dollor 1 or Rs. 100 will definately be hit in India but only for middle level and upper middle level income group. The lower income group and lower middle income group will not find it so relevent in many cases. They can buy grossary items and their daily needs from the near by stores on less money. There are many things which people will like to buy from there near by shops.

In terms of positioning this will be a great raising concept in India, as by seaing this many retail comapnies will introduce such type of supermarkets, and then definately price will be redused and the concept will come down not to 1 doller less then 1 doller.

We should welcome this in India.

Hi The Rs.100 Store surly wil be hit in india, the only reason is indian customers looks for value for their money.

but one thing is quality of such products wil ensure that customers come again to such stores. so the biggest hurdle wil be the product offering . people wont step again if they find inferior quality product.

if u have observed there are  many such retailers (Un organised sector) which sells on single mrp on all prouducts like one store i visited with name only 49 & 99 where u  wil get all gift item on the price band of Rs.49 and Rs.99

Warm regards
