Why does one need a certification? Being able to understand the philosophy, apply a variety of appropriate tools to achieve desired results and breakthrough protibality for the organizations ought to be motivating enough for anyone seeking to implement Six Sigma and improve their processes. There are currently no acceptable or common standards for issueing a certificate; just about anybody can put together & run a program and issue a certificate. What is more important is who is going to stand by your side and ensure that the wisdom of process improvement is passed along to your organization or the individuals. I am a Lean 6-Sigma BB in manufacturing and Services area, Consultant & trainer, but I would first recommend a robust implementation of the Quality Management system (which I refer to as Business Management System), the foundation upon which any quality initiative will thrive.

I feel more then any certifications, it is running 2/3 projects as green belt after attending the brief session on Six sigma will be better approach of knowing the concept practically. It gives practical insight into applications and analysis technique. Then you can take up a Six Sigma black belt with one or two projects executed.Few companies have their own method of Six sigma Black belt and MBB certification process. However just having some certification does not really help in applying in the real project situations.

Hi Avanish, good question but cannot give a specific answer. As Ramesh said we have centers at almost every corner of a street and many are providing the six sigma certificates. So it is very difficult to differentiate who is a standard provider for the six sigma certificate. If I come to know any loyal provider I will let you know.
