Also, between brain and mind, who controls whom? Or, Are both brain and mind independent?
Brain is a tangible body organ, whose role and location is perceptible and
scientifically known? Does mind exist? Where is it located and what is it exact
role for a living being?
From the view-point of 'MahaVad', Mind is software and Brain is hardware. Visit- www.mahavad.webs.com
The individual's outputs (behaviors, actions and communications) are controlled primarily through mind, which is the composite of our thought processes. Brain the most important part of mind’s biological support infrastructure.
Mind is the abstract system of input content that is stored in and processed in the brain. Unlike the brain which is entirely physical, mind is entirely abstract because it comprises the accumulated and processed ‘copies’ of sensory, linguistic, conceptual and emotional input to the local awareness function that is the authentic self (some refer to this as the soul).
The brain and mind are interdependent because mind cannot exist without the brain's biological infrastructural storage and processing support; and because brain would be much less capable without the conceptual copies that originate from outside the brain as inputs to the local awareness function, especially through sensory inputs from the individual’s physical environment, and from 'others', via sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. The most influential inputs toward mind are the second-hand conceptual content that are sensorily captured through language, commonly known as conditioning.
As much of this influential source of mind is input during one's early years, it is not accurate to attribute much control to the local self. It is rather the larger species-wide and historically-deep conceptual system, or social mind, that is working on all of us. The awareness function (popularly referred to as God or Spirit) of any individual generation typically makes small but incremental modifications that serve evolutionary and transformational progress.
Yes, mind exists as an abstract, locally experiencable reality. Its content can be inferred to be located and processed in the brain, and serves as both the reality-representation and creative-projection medium/function of individuals. Social mind is the network of conceptual content stored and perpetually being reprocessed through inputs and outputs from other human brain nodes in the human network.
Respected Bhatia ji,
Thanks for referring such a thoughtful idea to me to offer my views.
What I consider mind itself is a thought process and works as an integral part of brain. It may not be out of context, if we compare the processes of brain with the strategic and functional processes of a corporate body formed of various board of directors whose functions are different according to their specialisation, expertise and delegations, and is headed by a common Chairman/MD. Each functionary works individually, but with some common vision and mission of the organisation, and directs the management accordingly. Not all the functions are done by the Chairman & MD and only approvals are granted or assumed for the activities of other board members. So, we can compare the brain also as the head of the processes to control our body functions through various functionaries, like mind ( athought process), which starts working after reporting by the communications system, i.e., the sensory network of our body. Being under the control of brain, the mind, as a part of our brain, starts automatically working and sends signals to the body parts through the same sensory network to act or react.
So, although the mind is the controller of the thought process, but that ultimately works under the over-all control of our brain. However, the thought process and working of mind and brain are virtually affected by the environments in which the concerned person continues to live or stumbles upon even on temporary basis. That is why the thinkings of different persons are found to be different even on a matter of common sense.
Our thought processes are governed a lot by our upbringing during our childhood and are actually the result of all the events during our lifetime, our home and society culture, education along with our genes inherited from our forefathers which together shapes our character and our personality.Mind is actually a long term effect of the brain and both are inter-dependent.
If you refer thought processes, definitely brain is the controller.
Mind provokes actions. Without caring much for the thoughts.
Then question comes who controls the mind?
Mind is controlled by you, your rationales, or irrationales based on your values, cultures, experiences and educations(not your degrees of universities).
If you are rational, you shall again refer the issue to the brain for advice.
If you're irrational, you may act thoughtlessly.
Thanks,
Dipak Bhattacharya
None of them. First of all we need to realize who we are.
We are souls, sitting in the middle of the brain and controlling the body functions.
So SOUL is the controller of this Body. Mind, Intellect and Resolves (Man, Bhuddhi, Sanskar) these are three powers of the soul.
So we (the SOULS) are controllers. Brain is the residing place. Mind is one of the properties of SOUL.
Hope this makes it clear.
Traditional wisdom describes man as a "3 Brained Being" - having a thinking center, a feeling center and a sensory (physical center) -- and with the potential for a higher-intellectual and a higher-emotional centers. The problem is there is no harmony between the centers and thus, find ourselves at times thinking with our feelings and feeling with our thoughts and our body misbehaving according to similar "cross-connections". There is much that can be learned from such traditional thought, and modern science has become increasingly more interested in such foundations. Much of what goes on in our so-called thought processes is based on identification and association with past experiences. This may be a good survival tool, but is oftentimes counter-productive when circumstances call for creativity, innovation and even sensitivity -- much less attention and Presence. Thus, the oft-repeated and more oft-misunderstood mandate to "think outside the box". Regardless, such thinking is purely "formatory". It may be representative of intellect, but not demonstrate intelligence at all. If you're interested in pursuing such ideas I refer you to one of your own countrymen, a Ravi Ravindra. He has written extensively and teaches on this subject. Best wishes in your search...
brain is a hard disk stores all human experiences like past, present and future holistic pertain to past actions, opinions, perception about world being, whereas mind is not physical it is a feeling generate more and more thoughts in the entire lifespan of human being, but again mind cannot function without heart. It is heart is everything, without heart there is no brain as well as mind. It is heart all the way. We have heard saying people, a man confused while giving some thing to others, heart asking him to give whereas mind refuses to give vice versa happen day in day out in all human beings.
Any action in tangent with mind and heart is always truthful and successful decision making process. Human being must strive for balancing mind and heart. I have given some thoughts, even I may be wrong I do not know correct me If I am wrong
