The Chairman of a Bank wanted to select a General Manager and asked his Secretary to place an advertisement citing the necessary requirements. He informed the secretary to shortlist two candidates and send the details to him.

After 15 days, the file consisting of two short listed candidates came to him. Both are equally qualified. Abraham is having 5 years experience as GM of 5 banks. During his tenure all the banks became bankrupt. George is having no experience at all.

Whom shall the Chairman select? An experienced Abraham and risk the chance of making his bank the 6th in the list or George with no experience.

This is a story narrated by John F. Kennedy during presidential election in US, while answering a question “why they should vote for an in-experienced person”

I just thought of sharing this story with you.

My heart goes out for the banks under Abraham's leadership; My legs out for Abraham for his failure to learn from his failures but my vote for George for being inexperienced but certainly not another Abraham.

I think, Mr. Abraham needs to be given a Serious thought for the reasons

1.he has seen Failures in his career and must b in phase to resolve the Problems ( there may b external factors which must have taken banks in Bankruptacy)

2. I presume He must b a Risk taking Person which sometimes may turn Positive ( A calculated Risk)

3. He has more chances of making it a successful venture as " SUCCESS IS ABILITY TO GO FROM FAILURE 2 FAILURE"..

4. Mr. George on the other side has no experience which itself proves Decision making, Driving of the Dept skills are lacking....

5. They also say "NAHI MAMU SE NAKTA MAMU KABHI BHI ACHA"

So I dont forsee any resons to select Mr. George....

Their is no point in selecting Abraham as per my view.

Abraham was GM for 5 banks which were bankrupted; suppose the case was 4 banks were bankrupted and 5th bank was about to bankrupt but because of Abraham's ability of decision making bank was saved and doing good. then there was a point to select him.

In George's case, he is a fresher and wants to build a great career in the field. He should get a chance, because freshers are like an empty cup he can be trained well and do good for the company.

In many instances freshers have proved they are better than the experienced. The most important difference is their open mind and a determination to achieve and prove their worth.

I will go for the fresher. At least you can mold him as per the requirement by providing training and as he is a fresher then you have surety that he will not harm your bank as other candidate can whose record is giving a negative impression. So better to take a risk.Other than that fresher will leave no stone unturned in your job because it's a great opportunity for him.Second candidate already had seen many banks go bankrupt so for him even worse situation will be easier.

Still, i would suggest to go for Abraham. Reason: A single person should not be responsible for bankruptcy. It depends on the situations also. Second most important reason is people learn from failures. As he had seen the failure 5 times, he is aware of the reasons behind the failure somehow. On the other hand, George is not experienced guy. So, it would be better to go for Abraham. With good planning and learning from past mistakes, he could bring unexpected results.

In my opinion Mr.Abraham should be given the chance again. Reason is he was given second chance after first bank failure   then again then again..... sixth time also but the reason of failure is certainly not Mr.Abraham but he knows why Bank's are failed. Their can be so many reasons but we can not challenge his experience in handling the bank's affairs. Caution is his appointment should be with some , after analyzing the reason of failures, strings attached.

In my view this is more the case of 'situational analysis'. We have to take extra care in analysing both the person. If one is failure what are the reasons behind it. He is incapable of handling the situation or his recommedations are not implemented properly. By probing technique we can come to the conclusion. There is also drawback in appointing the utter fresher. He does not know how to react the unseen and unknown problems. and this post requires alot of long term and short term strategy. in Abraham case atleast he is familiar with the adverse conditions, but handling is also important. But fresher if having good analytical back ground, better reasoning, adaptive to problems and solutions, how he solves case studies where real example can be put to him, gives the positive node in his case.

I am not against Abraham or George as a person. but i want to be sure who can handle the post better. Better to go and judge them by their skills.
