A good debatable issue on this forum. For majority of Indians, the Govt. job is a dream. It may be because the security it provides, one need not  continuously to sharpen his skills to stay on the job till he attains superannuation.  The other dimension is the caste factor.  The facility of family members  getting employment on compassionate grounds, if the serving employee dies while in service.  Whether you work or not, you will get the salary on the first day of the month and you get the increments and promotions very routinely without worrying for appraisal ratings.  Horse and donkey are equally treated.  You need not put great efforts once you get employed in the Govt. service.  With so many features of this kind, its still luring the lazy  Indians.

"Security and Fear of competition". >>>Govt job synonyms with job security, leisure, and without competition. Human beings subconsciously always looking for relaxation, security, place free of competition to survive.

frankly speaking if anyone does not know anything technically, he/she can survive in some of the Gov. jobs. And the another reason might be the MORE HOLIDAYS we get in some of the gov. jobs.

Mr. Narayan, I do agree with your comments as far as Civil services are concerned.  They are coveted services, may be because the power they enjoy, the social status attached to them, their proximity to the ultimate power etc.  But as far as the disagreement from Govt. employees, I must say that I am also a Govt. employee.  I entered the Govt. service at the age of 20 years and serving as Asst. Manager at present.  Yet, I am struggling to come out.  Ofcourse, there is a stiff opposition from my family to quit the Govt. job.

Mr. Raj Singh, my point of contention is different to say that horse and donkey are treated alike.  My contention is that, the quality of work you provide, your domain knowledge has no relevance in the service.  I do agree with your point of contention.  In my department also chief programmers are being used for data entry work.  This may be because of the ignorance of their job profile.

Thank you madam Renne for the comments.

Agree Srinivas , but on point horse and donkey equally treated is not right, in govt. higher post people treat lower people like pig,

i am district level officer in district court , , from high court , and i am watching all this from last one year,

and all i wanna say is ....govt. job's are good for arts, commerce people, but if u r  tech, engg, and  u have ur self respect and respect towards ur degree n ur knowledge , dont go for govt job,

specially for computer line people,  in govt,  a data entry operator  and an engineer are equal for others,

i heard people telling  ,some1 abt his son who is learning hindi typing, that my son is also expert in computer , and he can type and knows better than other comp engg working in this office :-P
