This is an era when the job aspirants believes in hopping for paltry gains! Its in the best interest of job aspirants to get the all-round personality, they should stick to one position for a specific number of years so that their foundation is properly laid! However, on the contrary, employers often use this tool to exorcise the employees too for petty gains! To get out of this situation, they should keep some remedial measures handy!
In my view, companies know that most colleges are crap in the sense that no practical exposure is given to students. For example, my field is computer science and 99% of students in my college and all the colleges in my area do not know how to program a decent-sized application. Hell, not even the 'teachers' know.
So companies know that they have to invest time and money to train these people to achieve even slight competency. Since training takes time and money, the company doesn't want you to leave soon after they have exhausted resources on you. Hence, the bond.
However, I do note that in many cases the bond is pretty dumb. IMO, it should be on a case-by-case basis.
