i think the nature of work in mfg. industry is responsible 4 that.In India ladies r not allowed to work in odd hours .for ex. if a powerplant demand some maintenance at 2 AM...u cant call a lady maintenance engineer to solve the problem.but  we can make some model plants where the whole plant is run by ladies only....the time is about to come .

I believe that manufacturing sector demands more physical efforts, and also in India automation is just entering, so now the scope for women to enter this field is opening,

women can work on production line where fully automated lines are making transportation of jobs very simple...we don't need to lift the jobs now...

so now the time is slowly coming where women can think of entering into manufacturing field...

I agree in India women are not encouraged to take up the Production or engineering jobs. But I feel after seeing other parts of the world, trend is slowly changing. Women are taking up studies in Mechanical Enigneering etc. Hope in the coming days we will be able to see more women in this fiels in India too.

Dear Soni i agree that women generally are not interested in these type of sectors but the reason behind it is the fact that there is more physical work associated with it which prevents women to come in this sector.

what do you say?

Recently i had visited China & UK and i had seen women are freely working in production and engineering department and they are very good in their technical side. Its not related with physical work also.. in india only lots of women are working in constructions site and they are doing so physical work. Earlier it was happen because women are not comfortable to work in odd hours or not prefer hard work and they have lots of restrictions from parents.. later on husband.. family members.. now slowly slowly they are moving in each and every sector.

Not only in prod/indust engg, but in any of the engg fields other den software ,gals are few,the reason is lack of awareness, they are not aware of their role after graduation like what part they will play AT WORK-its not like working on site all the time, one need to change this fear of working on shopfloors at odd time, it depends on the type of job & company we choose rather then generalizing it. In male dominant society womens are always asked for their physical capacity-but as per me, you need to be determined about your goal either gal or guy.
