Why humans have the nature of constantly worrying on something or the other? Is it the inborn attribute of the living organisms with brains? Or is it the side effect of our civilization?
The other thing (That worries me !!! if I may be allowed to use the word Worry) is that, despite the fact that worrying yields negative results and does no good, we tend to worry. Is it a voluntry response to the circumstances?
Our reasons for worry keep changing continuously. Affluent peopole who have everything that is required for life also worry and those who need to struggle for everything also worry. But the reasons are completely different. Someone who moves up the ladder from nothing to everything also keeps changing the reasons for worry. Initially everyone says, if I can get good grades in my graduation all my worries are over. Then the reason shifts to employment, then marriage, then children, then promotion, then house, and it goes on and on until every worry is overcome. Then again new worry begins, it could be my grade in school is not good enough, my position in my company is not good enough etc and there is no satifaction.
It's good to have ambition and then good to aim high for it. Aiming does not mean worry about it, aiming means working for it, startegise it, plan for it and execute the plan. But people do the opposite, despite the fact that everyone knows that worrying does no good but yielding bad results. Why is it that people worry? do you say it is involuntry?
Worrying comes when we think of negative future possibilities. It's that simple--we spend time and energy thinking about negative things that could happen, not that have happened. And therefore the energy that were expending usually is wasted because those negative things tend not to come about after all. Mark Twain said that "I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened," and most of us can relate to this statement. Most of what we worry about never comes to pass, and the time we spent worrying was time and energy wasted.
And even if the worst does come to pass, the worrying didn't do a thing to help make it less difficult, less intense, less negative. We might have spent our time preparing for the outcome rather than worrying about it, but instead we devoted our energy to purely self-centered concern.
Worry is a reflection of a lack of faith that life will be good to us, a lack of faith that God and life are in control and will make our lives full and vibrant. Worry reflects a lack of faith in oneself and in other people to do things that need to be done when they need to be done, and a lack of trust that we'll be able to deal with difficulties when they surface in our lives.
Worry keeps us from helping other people, it causes us many negative results through the stress and strife that it brings, and it wastes a lot of the precious energy that we have in our lives. The only way to combat worry, it seems, is through acceptance--acceptance of the current situations in our lives--and attempting to take positive action to counter the effects of possible negative factors in our lives. Worry doesn't change anything except our own stress levels, and it's important that we leave it behind as soon as we can if we wish to live our lives and our todays fully and completely.
We need to look deeper into it. There are three stage of worry – No worry, Excessive Worry and Required Worry. Let me take help of an example, say somebody is travelling in jungle, he encounters a lion.
No Worry – This guys does not worry, thinking worry does not lead anywhere, and surrenders to the mercy of lion.
Excessive Worry – This guys worry and worry, drifted in pessimistic thought and dies not because of lion, but because of his anxiety, stress and fear and excessive worry.
Required Worry – This guys worries to a required level, and takes a qualitative action of fight or flight. This is what I wanted to say right direction (required quality and quantity) of worry.
Some more worries for you all to read !!! Though I agree on what Rajan Agarwal says, I differ on what he calls worrying in the right direction (a healthy bodily reaction to immediate dangeri), there is no worry in the right direction.
I found the following on the net at http://www.anxietyculture.com/worry.htm I thought I would share it with our good friends so that we all can live happily ever after reading it !!!!!!!!
Worries are
"Normal": Present or imminent danger triggers Flight Or Fight, which leaves body in a state conducive to anxiety & worry (temporary) until body returns to non-adrenaline state. For example, your car skids on an icy surface.
ii) "Pathological": Works in the opposite direction. Starts with worry (about imagined or non-imminent danger), which triggers FOF, which leaves body in state conducive to more worrying (a vicious circle/spiral).
It is possible to worry without noticeably triggering FOF. Minor worries thus seem harmless. But the effect is cumulative, known as "stress". Worrying is never useful. Worrying only appears useful because problems are often solved after a period of worrying. Perhaps we make a (false) connection between the worrying and the problem's solution.
Worry was invented as a great tool and supposed to work in favor of human beings. With time this lost its usefulness and its application. It was supposed to motivate the people and worry about the future and get to an action. We all heard the story of grasshopper and ant, ant worried, struggled and collected the food. Grasshopper suffered, why, because he either did not worry or did not react to worry. So worry is good thing as long as you worry in right direction and act on it.
Ms Varsha, having faith will not work anything if you do not act. Worry makes you proactive.
Mr. Paul, I beg to differ 'humans create their own imaginary or self created problems and invented the a name WORRY'. It is accumulated wisdom which gives insight to look into future aspects and combinations of any problem or situation with you, so that you can take a right and balanced judgement. Worry is a certain pattern of thought process and analysis.
Human beings have a lot of expectations from themselves and others, and when these things doesn't happen according to the plan then people start worrying about why in the first place it didn't happen then worry about what were the factors, so its a cyclic process, when things fall in place they don't care about how it happened, but only worry when things go wrong..
worry increases human attention toward the hurdels for which his worry arrises but too maintain tha balance too remain its attentiveness
is the key to cross the hurdell
if we stops by seeing the depth of the ocean we will never be able to crosse it
the best way is to face the point of worry till it can pluse 5minutes more AS"breav people are no one but ordinary people who can withstand 2minutes more there worrys"
The word 'worry' is a total misfit. Nature has imbibed in all its creations to react on aspects related to past, present and future situations. Looking closer, we can find even so called neutral matters display actions identical to the one has physical life. If we think little more deeper, the action continues in some other form even the matter is physically dead.
Our grand father's needs in their life were much simpler than ours. On the whole they lived a lot more happier than the new generations. They had no worries of traffic jams, bad bosses, incorrigible subordinates, bank loans, children not topping in the class, etc. Still they had concerns of late monsoons, weeds in farms, no news of children abroad, to find suitable match for grand daughter etc. They never called it worries because for them these were part of life.
Look at other forms of life: The squirrels and ants gather food for the lean times, the nesting birds protect its eggs, the hens keep an eye of the eagles in the sky, the lizards change color to camouflage itself, etc.
Look at the neutral forms of objects. A seed sprout refuse to grow under the shade while the one grows bend itself to get sunlight, how the touch-me-nots reacts, the thorns, itching leaves to protect itself, the flowers and fruits with inbuilt features to avoid destruction to ensure procreation, trees shedding leaves to protect from summer heat etc.
Therefore, these are nothing but natural reactions related natural effects and part of normal existance. Humans made bombs and WMDs and live in perpetual worry, they smoke and worry about cancer, use very fast moving vehicles exposing themselves to danger, make themselves and others, to worry. They created Religions and make them fight each other.
Beside the natural reactions and its natural effects that are part of normal life, humans create their own imaginary or self created problems and invented the a name "WORRY" and always live worrying about those worries.
If we are seeking truth, if we want to be free from pain, we have to be ready to question our thinking.
Because the same level of thinking that got you where you are today is not going to get you to the emotional STATE OF BEING you are motivated to achieve.
The difference between happiness and sadness is completely dependent on your willingness to understand where motivation is taking you. We need to know where the motivation is taking us before we can begin with the end in mind.
Without knowing it the motivation in our lives is taking us towards one fundamental truth: “The cessation of pain and towards the absolute sensations of pleasure.”
The problem is most of us don’t see our motivation to be as simple as it really is.
We have to be willing to see clearly before we can acknowledge that all we really want is to enjoy the present moment. We have to be willing to unconditionally let the present circumstances be as they are before we can truly enjoy life. What does this mean?
It means that unless you are able to achieve satisfaction, your desire to gain pleasure, without knowing it, will always cause you to pursue the promise of perfection.

It is human nature to worry since it is common and basic negative emotions in every human being and play an important role in our lives. Worrying affects each of us in different ways, some more than others. It build up pressure in our lives and enable us to perform better in our different activities and work, be it in our social, professional, or personal lives. However, when worry become ingrained elements of our existence, they disrupt and destroy our lives completely.
We tend tend to worry at times especially when issues seem to have far-reaching consequences. While we know deep inside that worrying is not going to do anything except make us more depressed, there are times when irrational worries tend to drive rational thought to the far corners of our minds. Sometimes we worry unecessarily too.
Let us stop worrying and take one day at a time. Why worry when worry kills.
