Naxalist & Maoist menaces are difficult problems. But what is astonishing is why the railway is not geared to avoid collisions such as the one happened today.  Most of the death happened is not due to derailment but due to the collision which happened some time later. If the driver of the passenger train could inform the control room immediately, so that they could warn the goods train driver in time, the collision could have been averted. These are not rocket science anymore.  Even the 26/11 terrorists could easily communicate with their control rooms abroad.

The  Rly. Minister’s commented that law & order is States responsibility with out even considering the fact that the collision could have been averted if railways had the required technology support in place.  Need not expect anything better from them; but are there not enough technical persons in the railways who could look into the railway’s technology needs of day?

a popular hindi sayin goes as "bagal me chora gaon me dhindhora"

m sayn this bcz Mumbai has already a Anti collision technology wich is "Indigenous" and implemented sucessfully in all locals.. thats the reason inspite of heavy rush of locals evry 30 seconds nver two locals collide. as per the technology the train speaks to othr trains and even if there is negligence of the driver the train itslf brakes at a safe distanc and prevents collision.

the govt shud juz implemnt this system throughout and save innocent lives. and it is not an expensive technology to implemnt given the present railway budget. i hope the govt implements the same and stop unnecessarily play a Blame Game at the stake of innocent lives...

Another collission and sure more will happen unless something is done quickly to avert at least such avoaidable accidents. The only thing that happen is some media bash and political mud slinging.  BJP says that NDA started something and UPA did not take along. The fact remains that  that many precious lives are lost again again due to callouness of the railway department.

Fed up with these, I have posted another insigt "A feasible technology based idea to reduce train accidents" else wherre in this space. I request the memebrs to please forward it to your friends and to the railway authorities if you have some one known there.

Indian railways being one of the largest in the world, how come the railway authorities are not able to gear up the network with features readily available in technology? There are ready solutions.

1. Every train shall have a GPS satellite phone by which the drivers could be in touch with control room.

2.  It is possible to autonomously generate a warning signal to the nearby stations / control room so that the signals can be changed to stop all trains in the vicinity.

3. There is a GSM system exclusively for railways. OF cable connect GSM cell sites all along the route with alternate paths for redundancy. This can provide  Phone & Internet facility for train satff and passengers.
