The fourth finger is the only finger in human hand which has a vein connected directly to heart. So, the concept is your life partner, symbolised by wedding ring, is connected directly to your heart.
THE WEDDING RING IS WORN ON THE LEFT RING FINGER, BECAUSE THE VEIN IN THE LEFT RING FINGER, WHICH IS BELIEVED TO BE DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO THE HEART...ITS A SYMBOL OF LOVE.

there is a saying as jagdeep pointed out that the vein of the third finger directly links to the heart and hence the spouse will always remain dear to the one's heart..though it is a belief dont seem to see any scientific reason..
Because of the old belief that there is a vein that runs from the third finger of our left hand directly to our heart, this practice continues till date.
According to Chinese belief thumb finger is parents, index finger is siblings, middle finger is ourself, fourth finger is spouse, and little finger is children. Join all the fingers together and fold middle finger down and remaining fingers should be in straight. now rejoin your thumb finger it will separate because our parents will leave us once we got married / grow up. then index finger rejoin it will also separate because our siblings will leave us once they got married. middle finger is urself. rejoin little finger it will also separate. now keep in position as said now let us de-separate fourth finger you cant separate them because they are our life partners.that's why everyone are wearing wedding ring in fourth finger

Becoz, the fourth finger as per the palmistry represents the marriage and spouse. For eg: Thumb represents the will power, logic and passion, index finger represents the mind, middle finger represents the heart, the small finger represents the children.
