Its a distinct possibility given their single minded pursuit of excellence. But it will take a long time since at present we are way ahead of them in IT. And if we continue to be complacent, they would definitely cut our lead.

No, I don't think we need to worry about this at this point of time.. But looking at the speed the Chinese are showing the interest in learning English and Chinese Govt's infrastructure developments in rural areas of China, it might happen in one day, probably in 2030. This not in the hands of IT industry hands alone, it is in the hands of both Central and State govts.

I dont think it will be that easy for China to compete with India for the fact people stay away from "Made in China" products.

Although software industry in China is still at the primitive stage, with her huge personnel resource, the demands from her fast growing economy, and government’s promotional policies, China will inevitably become the main provider of software outsourcing services as well as the main software consuming market in the world. But India is also not far as per outsourcing Services are concern.Comparing India with China, we can further realize the strengths of China as an outsourcing destination. One of the important strengths of China is its huge domestic software market that attracts domestic software firms as well as foreign software firms.

We will lag behind if the following happens -

a. If we don’t keep growing, at least at the current phase.

b. Manpower in specialized areas can be expensive but not in regular functions. If it becomes expensive in regular functional areas too then IT would lose its export market.

Also to keep in mind are the following -

a. Chinese are giving importance to teaching English and enhance their English communication skills.

b. The Chinese can keep their cost down by sheer slavery in the robe of communism.
