MFIs have seen the most active venture capital deal flow within the banking and financial sector since 2008. There are many Small town microfinance companies spread across India which are doing well at the moment and in states like kerala, karnataka and Tamilnadu microfinance is picking up.  And some of  India's venture capitalists are entering this market, thanks to the booming microfinance industry.

kerala based ESAF Microfinance and Investments (EMFIL) said it landed Rs 12 crore from Dia Vikas Capital, an arm of Opportunity International Australia, while karnataka's Navachetna Microfin Services Ltd received Rs 1.5 crore from a few high net worth individuals and IT professionals. Then in Tamilnadu Grama Vidiyal Micro Finance Ltd (GVMFL) said it raised Rs 20.4 crore from MicroVest, Unitus Equity Fund and venture capitalist Vinod Khosla. This is the second round for Grama, which had raised Rs 14.7 crore in 2008. Just because some Micro finance companies got investment doesn't mean that VC's are heading this way..

Will Small town microfinance attract more venture investors??

Yes, absolutely great opportunity for Micro Finance Institutes because most of the people of India live in villages & they are self dependent.

To promote Micro Finance first of all Financial Institutes should create awareness regarding the same among the people & should have a tie-ups with NGOs or Graam Panchayat etc. can lead Micro Finance Business in our country.

Therefore, with the help of Micro Finance we can promote our cultural & traditional activities or business all over the world.

Yes Venture capitalists are going for tier 3 cities. I am from Kerala and here there are huge opportunities for finance companies as many regions are poorly served by banks, especially micro finance( success of muthoot finance etc)  .
