I see a lot of questions regarding civil engineering materials from civil engineers themselves. Most of these questions not only reflect the lack of the depth of the knowledge but many times lack of basic knowledge also.

In this scenario do you think that companies in India (construction, consultancy, owner/developer/promoter, finance) will hire services of free lance civil engg material experts?

I think yes.. but the freelancer should have facilities for conducting various tests available with him.

Again.. for all common materials, most of the companies may have their own facilities to test.. so the requirement may be exceptional.. So the consultant should be competant with all new products and combinations..

It's a good Idea. But 90% of freelance journalist are not having any responsibilty for what they write.AS per wind direction and mood they write. But as a material engineer you have to bound for what you have told.Any way in the present scenario the consultants are nothing but freelancers. Have nice offer

What I could suggest, Vivek, if you are planning to become one; is that you demonstrate some simple materials in eye catching applications prominently.  For instance, many people suggest that mud construction is equally stronger but how many have gone in for that in Bangalore?  We see mud construction in Mangalore but that is a different matter altogether.

Architects use some antique pieces (they appear antique!) innovatively.  Sculptors also make attempts in this direction.  Murels are prominently displayed.

I read about one consultant for human movement.  Dancers made use of his services.  So why not?!!

Yes Vivek this can be done in terms of construction also as before the freelance employment was seen common in the areas of writing, editing, indexing, software development, website design, advertising, open innovations, information technology, and business process outsourcing, and then with internet it has opened up many freelance opportunities are there for grabs and this has expanded the markets, and has contributed to service sector growth in many economies...so the idea of Freelance material expert in India will work out really well....
