Development Manager, Team Lead

India

Worked from 1997 to 2002

Brief summary :

Team Lead May 1997 - October 2002 Current Portfolio: As the Development Manager I am responsible for managing the entire development setup for the India operations of the current company. This involves managing directly and indirectly a team in a product development setup. Current role involves responsibility of managing the entire delivery from India encompassing all aspects of delivery management. As the current company is in the business of making 3D virtual worlds for children there are both game and server side development teams in India as part of my delivery portfolio. As part of game development activities, we are making games for the Web and Consoles in India as well as working on Multiplayer Online games, and also on the localization aspects. The server side development team which works on .Net technology is engaged in building up a service oriented framework to support the games. Current organization is Knowledge Adventure India which is a subsidiary of Knowledge Adventure Inc. headquartered in USA and engaged in development of 3D virtual worlds for children. The virtual world can be seen at HYPERLINK http://www.jumpstart.com www.jumpstart.com . I was associated with the India operations from day 1 and was responsible for scaling it up from a size of 3 to 40 in about 4 months time. For a period of 4 months in absence of the General Manager India due to illness, I had held the fort completely. The work that started from July 2008 involved creation of an online virtual world for children of various ages using the Unity 3D platform. The first online title was `Storyland. It was followed by `Adventureland, `Marineland and `Futureland. In parallel the development activity also started on the Wii platform and we released three titles viz. JumpStart-Pet Rescue, JumpStart-Escape from Adventure Island and Jumpstart-Get Moving Family Fitness. The online platform also became multiplayer during this duration. We are working on other devices and various social networking platforms as well. Currently I am exploring various aspects of viral platforms and virtual economy. My personal area of interest also lies in exploring the usage of virtual world as a retail platform. In terms of organizational initiatives, I am spearheading the effort related to knowledge management and metrics implementation for the Indian operations. Past Projects: Naice Jewels Account: This account is from a prominent Jewelry manufacturer and trader. Their primary business channel is online retailing but they also use trade channels and service bulk orders. Currently they operate in the UK and US markets but have plans to open operations in other countries later. At present they have multiple websites through which they cater to different market segment and geographies. We service all their custom made software requirements and also provide consultancy in case they need to purchase 3rd party software. In this portfolio we have development projects as well as maintenance and enhancement projects. I have the responsibility of managing the entire portfolio. We worked on an ERP system for them that would integrate the backend process for all their websites and trade channels. It also offers a platform for their vendors and an interface for the factory. We have completed a website for them HYPERLINK http://www.bigredmall.com www.bigredmall.com We have also engaged in doing maintenance and enhancement work for some existing websites. The technology primarily used is .Net and SQL Server Bigflix: This website HYPERLINK http://www.bigflix.com www.bigflix.com is from Reliance and we executed the video rental portion. We also provided the necessary APIs to integrate with their stores operation. I took over the project from the middle of the coding phase and completed it successfully. Inform and Enhance Project: Project Summary: This project involves development of a specialized Hospital Information System for Cosmetic Surgery setups.

A Program Management office is definitely needed to manage multiple projects and I agree with Ritu that getting the buy in from stakeholders is absolutely important. In fact this process of getting the buy in becomes one of the major tasks for the PMO.
