YouTube has come to define the era of online video, so let's take a look at its most popular videos of all time. Our latest update has Justin Bieber still at number 1 with Baby, which has become the first YouTube video to pass 400 million views. Eminem has two videos in the top 10, at numbers 5 and 7. We first did this list in August 2007, at which point Evolution of Dance by comedian Judson Laipply was number 1 with nearly 56 million views. The next update was September 2008, when Avril Lavigne's Girlfriend pop music video was number 1 with 103 million page views (although commenters argued that it may have gamed the system). In January 2010, Charlie bit my finger - again ! was number 1, w...

From Pakistan , Diplomats Wrote About a Vexing Ally Confidential cables to Washington from the American embassy in Islamabad , obtained by WikiLeaks and made available to a number of news organizations, illustrate deep clashes over strategic goals on issues like Pakistan's support for the Afghan Taliban and tolerance of Al Qaeda, and Washington's warmer relations with India , Pakistan's archenemy. One cable, sent less than a month after President Obama assured reporters that Pakistan's nuclear materials 'will remain out of militant hands,' expressed concern that a stockpile of highly enriched uranium, stored for years near an aging research reactor in Pakistan , could be used by militants t...

A European project to develop an application environment for every internet-connected device has received 10m euros in funding. The project aims to sidestep operating systems and proprietary app stores by providing a web-based approach. The idea would enable a given app to work, for example, on a web-ready television, in a car and on a mobile, no matter the makers of the devices. However, industry insiders say the idea is unlikely to get off the ground. The Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems (Fokus) in Germany is leading the effort, dubbed Webinos. It is a group of 22 organisations including mobile operators Deutsche Telekom and Telecom Italia, manufacturers such as Sony Er...
