That depends upon the nature of the job. If the work is maintenance or customization, then chatting will definitely affect. If the work is more of hacking , chatting is needed to refresh the mind (BTW, not the prolong chat)
Things are much worse in Sivakasi (where people work creating fire crackers). Basic problem is corruption
