Know Where a Wine Really Comes From by Jim Gordon The mantra of real estate buyers everywhere -- 'location, location, location' -- is almost as important for wine buyers. While certain foods and beverages carry a general notation of their origin, like Idaho potatoes and Sumatra coffee, wine can narrow the notion down to the precise plot of land where the grapes grew. Governments in virtually all winemaking countries have made it illegal to cheat consumers by putting misleading information about a wine's origin on a label. They needed to, because a minority of dishonest winemakers is constantly tempted to make more money by tricking the consumer. They make a wine from inexpensive grapes grow...

Grid computing (or the use of a computational grid ) is applying the resources of many computers in a network to a single problem at the same time - usually to a scientific or technical problem that requires a great number of computer processing cycles or access to large amounts of data. A well-known example of grid computing in the public domain is the ongoing SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) @Home project in which thousands of people are sharing the unused processor cycles of their PCs in the vast search for signs of 'rational' signals from outer space. According to John Patrick, IBM's vice-president for Internet strategies, 'the next big thing will be grid computing.' Gri...

Most of us have a strong tendency to think that only a very spiritually elevated person can teach us about higher truth. In fact you learn more about higher truth through everyday contacts. We tend to invalidate what we learn from these people simply because we believe that they are ordinary humans. The danger of this influence is that you may over-idealize the so called ‘spiritual’ person, especially those who have made a profound impression upon you. You may regard them as spiritually and morally superior to any of your relatives, friends, colleagues whom you may neglect as a result. The important point here is that though these day to day people in your life are human also, they may stil...

It is a welcoming move that India and China have taken the lead. At the same time let us not use the work 'shame'; initiatives lead to success only when there are followers. If I am rite, India did not research and find out that the toxic-particulate...

What has an “Axe” to do with Performance Management? Ravi, Sham, Sunil, Sathish, Dinesh and so many others in the organization complained of work pressure, unachievable targets, peer pressure, time management and loss of work life balance. Despite working hard, their performance was going down and impacting organization’s bottom line. Who is to blame for poor performance of employees and business? Ask line managers; they blame it on HR for poor hiring. Ask HR; they blame it on line managers for poor management skills. Ask me, I would say, the Axe???? Now you will ask what (the hell) an Axe has to do in performance management business? Let me tell you a small story… Once upon a time, a very ...

There is something different that we see everytime at our workplace on a regular basis, and there are many workplaces where we see people usually listening to music with their earphones on while they are doing their work, and many cases people will be pretending to listen music but then they will be secretly listening to the conversations of their co-workers that they are having, as I myself had personally experienced when one of my co-worker was doing this, and really felt very much annoyed by the whole incident, and when asked actually he confronted that he was doing it for many days like this, and he was obsessed to hear other people's conversations but pretending not to. A serious case ...
