By Elaine Watson, It is “unfortunate” and “disappointing” that a new manufacturer-driven food safety standard has been launched to compete directly with retailerled third-party certification programmes, according to the British Retail Consortium (BRC), reports sister title Food Manufacture. On the new Food Safety System Certification scheme, FSSC 22000 – which is based on the ISO 22000 standard for food quality and backed by Nestlé, Unilever, Kraft and Danone – BRC director of Global Standards Dr Geoff Spriegel said: “ For some big branded food manufacturers, the BRC global standard is still regarded as something that was set up by UK retailers for their own-label suppliers. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Given how hard it is to find a job these days, you may have to send some of your restraint out the window before you’ll land your next gig. There are things you can do that may be considered extreme, or at least unconventional, but are also legal and effective: 1. Open the phone book Last year, there was a great profile in the Wall Street about Joyce King Thomas, a top executive at a top advertising firm. She actually was out of work for five months early on in her career and got so desperate that she opened up the phone book and started calling every ad company in the book, starting with “A”. She ended up landing a job with a small company that ...

We all know as to what happened to Ruchika's case and as to how powerful Rathore could get promotions despite the pendency of serious allegations against him. It took almost 19 years to see the initial judgment and we can simply expect as to the time it will take if Rathore prefers an appeal and probably knowing that, he could have laughed at the media on the judgment pronouncement day. We all know that it is a systematic collapse and all the important constitutional organs like the executive, legislature and judiciary failed shamefully. There could be many culprits in the episode and media has played a tremendous role in highlighting the issue and in the course of fight for justice. I am n...

“The essence of Spirituality” An advertising campaign has been running on Radio Salaam Namaste in Dallas area since the past month about the oncoming visit of Swami Mukundanda, an IIT and IIM alumnus who gave up lucrative corporate career to answer the call of spirituality. Apart from hearing about his visit on radio, I had seen flyers being distributed at major cultural events related to India in the metroplex. Today I was surprised to read an article about him in the Dallas Morning News’ Religion page. I was happy to note that for the first time a non-Christian saint/ person has hogged limelight in the “Religion” page of the newspaper. The article titled “Hindu leader coming to Dallas to ...
