What Indian Business Education don’t provide for the Environment. Value generated and transacted in Business is the hallmark and pillar of the skill generated from a Business education. A business when it sell products in India, they don’t worry about the affordability of their wares by the masses let alone functionality which may be part of it. A business incurs around 40% of fixed cost component along with may be 30% variable cost and probably the rest as ‘conversion cost’. What Business education teach us and what is followed in Efficient economies is they fix a breakeven point say 100 units of sale. These 100 units will provide the years cost incurred. After this point they will start ...

One cannot leave out corporate governence issues as a 'paradox' in the environment, the confusing branching as to which branch one should choose. That in itself is an absurdity to be present in an economy which threaten the sane progress of a...

Accounting of revenues costs in Entertainment Ind. 13 May 2010 2,927 views No Comment A common practice amongst media owners is the bundling of space across various products, programmes, channels, publications and portals. This makes the accounting of revenues or costs challenging. The Indian media and entertainment (M E) industry has transformed in the last 15 years. The segments within the industry include TV broadcasting, publishing, radio, new media, filmed entertainment, software production, music and events. Significant differences between Indian GAAP and IFRS, pose both accounting and business challenges . A common practice amongst media owners is the bundling of space across various products/programmes/channels/publications/portals. The accounting of revenues or costs becomes challenging where such space is marketed for a consolidated amount. There is no specific guidance under Indian GAAP or IFRS. Relative fair value However, under IFRS, the practice is to use the...

The other day I was in a restaurant and saw a sign advertising "Sliders Fridays." From what I gathered, they offered a deep discount on tiny hamburgers, called sliders, on Friday nights. The interesting thing about this discovery is that I own the restaurant and it's the first I knew of it. (Stacey's at Waterford: www.eatatstaceys.com ) I don't just own the restaurant. I also manage it, although I use that term loosely. I've taken the concept of hands-off management to the next level. Most of the time I have no idea what the staff is up to. They organize customer events, execute marketing ideas, hire and fire, change the menu, and pretty much anything else they want. I only get involved if there is a largish expense that needs to be approved. I see the financials daily, by e-mail, but I'm mostly about the bottom line. As a well-known critic of managers, I painted a big red bulls eye on my back when I started managing the restaurant. For the first year I was involved in the details...
