In today's highly competitive business environment, do you feel that there is need for an integration for sustainibility in Banking sector? I personally think yes, of corse and this integration has taken following two directions: The pursuit of environmental and social responsibility in a bank's operations through environmental initiatives (such as recycling programs or improvements in energy efficiency) and socially responsible initiatives (such as support for cultural events, improved human resource practices and charitable donations). The integration of sustainability into a bank's core businesses through the integration of environmental and social considerations into product design, mis...

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will review the performance of state run banks for financial year ended March 31 at a meeting with bank chairpersons on August 14 in New Delhi. The finance minister may also evaluate these banks' first quarter results. Mukherjee may also discuss the performance of regional rural banks given the importance the government and the central bank have been giving to financial inclusion and loans to boost agriculture and rural economy.

Buy One Get One Free (BOGO) – Does it really boosts the Sales? Gone are the days when customers use to easily lure away by the gimmicks of the marketing persons.  Today the customers are cleverer and demanding than ever before. They cannot be easily caught in the snare of the companies’ ideological gimmicks as they used to be in the past. I would love to share with you a real life and an interesting anecdote which is about a sales promotion program of a well established and renowned cigarette company. A week ago, in the afternoon, I stopped by a Pan Shop near my place, to buy a packet of cigarettes. There was an unusual rush on that Pan shop at that time. As I reached up to the counter, I came to know that some cigarette company’s Sales Promotion was going on there and a team of four Sales persons of that company were promoting their renowned and well established cigarette brand which was probably due to its attractive repacking and they might have added some more features to it so...

One young academically excellent person went for an interview for a managerial position in a big company. He passed the first interview; BUT in that Company, the director did the last interview, made the last decision. The director discovered from the CV, that the youth's academic result was excellent all the way, from the secondary school until the postgraduate research, never was there a year he did not score. The director asked, "Did you obtain any scholarship in school?" and the youth answered "no". The director asked, " Did your father pay your school fees?". The youth answered, "my father passed away when I was one year old and it was my mother who paid my school fees". The director asked, " Where did your mother work?" the youth answered, "my mother worked as cloth cleaner." The director requested the youth to show his hands and the youth showed a pair of hands that was smooth and perfect to the director. The director asked, " Did you ever help your mother wash clothes...

The year 2010 brought back salary hikes that had to be foregone in 2009. That was just the beginning of a good year for wealth creation in which most assets in your portfolio, stocks, gold, property and even FDs, made handsome gains. Only inflation played party pooper, denting the real returns from your investments. Wouldn't it be wonderful if in 2011, your income and wealth rises at least as fast as they did last year, and the rate of inflation comes down? Right now that doesn’t seem likely. Future is never certain, but we list some possibilities here that will help you prepare for it better. 1. India's rising income to push up your pay package Except those who work for government, everybody else’s income growth, and even job security, eventually depends on the health of the economy, which is best captured in three letters: GDP or Gross Domestic Product . The growth rate of GDP has picked up during 2010-11, and the year is mostly likely to show a 9% growth. That will ensure a good...

The King is ailing, who will succeed the King? That is of course the question on the mind of Apple’s shareholders, employees and to a lesser extent its customers and clients (who will jump to a Droid or Google, if and when they create products that excite and service them as well as Apple products). Despite protestations and reassurances from Jobs and Apple COO, Tim Cook, and despite their not just weathering, but thriving during Jobs-less times, an Apple without Jobs makes many nervous to their core. If we were to think of Jobs not as a unique and irreproducible person, but as a mindset, skill set and capacity that could be deconstructed and then modeled, not only could Apple continue its amazing growth, but other companies might follow suit. Much has been written about Jobs trying to figure out his “secret sauce” so that others might use it to propel their companies and careers to extraordinary outcomes. 1.     Dropped out of Reed College 2.     Calligraphy 3.     Psychedelics...
