Michigan researchers have built a prototype of a new auto motor that does away with pistons, crankshafts and valves, replacing the old internal combustion engine with a disc-shaped shock wave generator. It could slash the weight of hybrid cars and reduce auto emissions by 90 percent. The generator is about the size of a saucepot, and would replace the 1,000-pound power train in most cars — no transmission, cooling system, emissions regulation or fluids needed. Norbert Müller and colleagues at Michigan State University showed off the new motor prototype at a meeting with the Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency. It consists of a rotor carved with wave-like channels. Fuel ...

Future cars may eat their own exhaust , converting heat from their emissions into electricity. The conversion can improve fuel economy by reducing an engine’s workload. Purdue University researchers are working with General Motors to build thermoelectric generators, which produce an electric current when there is a temperature difference. Starting in January, the team will install an initial prototype behind a car’s catalytic converter, where it will harvest heat from exhaust gases that can reach 1,300 degrees F. The prototype involves small metal chips a few inches square. The process requires special metals that can withstand a huge temperature differential — the side facing the hot gase...

There is a serious mistake in the designing of Bajaj's bike which can make them most theft prone.Discover is one of the most successful model of Bajaj in 100-150cc engine segment , as far as performance and practicality is concerned it is very good and doing profit in business , but there is a serious mistake in its locking system. The electric connections of this bike are theft prone and don't ensure full safety to the vehicle in parking mode. The fault is searious during parking the bike in public parking where you are asked to not fix the handle lock,it gives the guard ease to park and leave the bike in best economical space. Problem starts when the owner doesn't fix handle lock and leave...

In world of financial engineering , I have this information to share with you . Well the financial risks could be averted by adopting these measures . Have a look at these measures and you will know ..... The concept of livelihood insurance, where contracts will protect individuals from long-term economic risks such as the loss of a paycheck or the depreciation of one's home value. The concept of what he terms "macro markets" - where individuals, corporations, and governments alike can trade or hedge risks associated with the fluctuations in GDP or national incomes. The concept of income-linked loans - where lenders will make loans to governments, corporations or individuals whose repayment terms are tied to the incomes of these entities. Such repayment terms could be a certain percentage of one's income, which would cause the outstanding balance to decline if income levels decline. This would reduce the change of bankruptcies but will also alleviate our fears of taking more risks...

Neural networks in financial engineering Neural networks have shown considerable successes in modeling financial data series. However, a major weakness of neural modeling is the lack of established procedures for performing tests for misspecified models, and tests of statistical significance for the various parameters that have been estimated. This is a serious disadvantage in applications where there is a strong culture for testing not only the predictive power of a model or the sensitivity of the dependent variable to changes in the inputs but also the statistical significance of the finding at a specified level of confidence. Rarely is this more important than in the case of financial engineering, where the data generating processes are dominantly stochastic and only partially deterministic. Partly a tutorial, partly a review, this paper describes a collection of typical applications in options pricing, cointegration, the term structure of interest rates and models of...

Financial engineering has provided innumerable lucrative opportunities for otherwise indigent mathematicians Nevertheless the turbulence in the bond markets in the last couple of months, at a time when the world economy’s prospects seemed set fair, have exposed a guilty secret of the financial engineering profession: its methods don’t work. First area of failure is liquidity. Theoretically, if financial engineers design ever fancier artificial securities and derivatives, but everybody uses the same mathematical models to value them, there is no reason why an active market should not operate in the securities, at whatever price the models direct. In practice this only works in calm markets. In times of market turbulence, when doubts arise about either the mathematical models themselves or the underlying assets from which value is derived, the true value of these artificial assets becomes thoroughly unclear. Buyers assess their value at the lowest possible level, and refuse to...

Industrial production shrinks by 2% as compared to the previous years 8% despite a stimulus package announced by the government to boost sagging demand. The manufacturing sector, which has a weight of about 80 per cent in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), registered negative growth of 2.5 per cent against a rise of 8.6 per cent in December 2007. The production of consumer durables and consumer non-durables as well as intermediate items declined. Consumer durables production fell as much as 12.8 per cent. For the first nine months of the current fiscal, industrial growth stood at 3.2 per cent against 9 per cent a year ago. The official advance estimates released earlier this week pegged industrial growth at 4.8 per cent for the current fiscal.

This Device is a real-time tracking system that incorporates the latest in GPS and wireless technology to accurately determine the exact location of a vehicle, where a person traveled, how fast they drove, where they stopped and for how long. Data can be viewed graphically on a digital map or in the form of tabular textual reports. This Device can be fitted onto cars, vans, trucks, buses, utility vehicles, trailers, emergency response vehicles, taxis, motorcycles or even scooters or for that matter, any thing that moves or is capable of moving. The hardware and software has been designed to be used on both private individual vehicles or large fleets. The Device allows for alerts to be set such as over-speeding, moving in and out of designated locations or areas and towing alarm. For a full list of the features
