About "Balance b/w Professionalism & Family...." topic:

Today’s employers seem to want more of our time than ever. In the India & US, the average worker puts in 55 hours a week; in Europe and other places where short working weeks have long been the norm, workers are struggling to hold on to their reasonable schedules as employers look to the US model in an effort to increase their bottom lines. Email, text messaging, cell phones, and Blackberries keep us tethered to the office even when we’re technically “off-duty”.

How can you keep up with your always-on career and still find time to do what you need to do at home, spend time with your family, enjoy some kind of social life, and just plain relax? At risk are your personal relationships, your development as a person, your sanity, and even your life. Stress kills. You need downtime to help your mind and body cope with the demands of your job

HAVE. No FEAR. If you were afraid of nothing, what goals would you set? What could you accomplish? What would you do if nothing scared you or made you nervous? Fear stops success. For example, a woman who wants to get married, but she is afraid of men. So she does not get married. Or she marries someone who is wrong for her, just because he does not scare her. If you want to run a business, you will fail if you are afraid of making big decisions. If you want to be a doctor, you cannot be afraid of sick people. If you want to succeed as an athlete, you cannot be afraid of hard, painful practice. Fear of anything can ruin your success: fear of rejection, fear of being excluded, fear of anger,...

How to Be Happy at Work 1) See happiness as the only option It is a hard to digest fact that every one of us cannot get an employer of choice. So, we are bound to work on a pre-specified working conditions, thus we can choose to be happy at work. So, think positively about your work. Dwell on the aspects of your work you like. Avoid negative people and gossip. Find coworkers you like and enjoy and spend your time with them. Your choices at work largely define your experience. You can choose to be happy at work. 2) If you don't get the things you love, love the things you get Each of us has got some talent, skills, which can be applied at the work place. Boring tasks can be made more interes...

Are You Ditching Work-Life Balance Because You’re Afraid of Losing Your Job? Some people think that life balance is a thing of luxury, something you pursue when times are good…that we should work like dogs  to remain indispensable in this unpredictable economy. But wait a sec. Weren’t we were already working like dogs, before we added in the fear of losing our jobs? If you’re listening with one ear, it might sound like logical advice, but a little trickster lives inside that suggestion. Work-life balance isn’t solely about balancing work and play. It’s about how you work, what you value, finding ways to match your values to your employer’s values, and accomplishing workplace goals with clar...

Office Etiquette or Office Manners is about conducting yourself   respectfully and courteously   in the office or workplace I have noticed that as we go from college to the real corporate world it is hard to get used to a different environment. This is for freshers because other would be knowing the thumb rules already.   Always act with honesty and   dignity Chewing   gum   and popping bubble gum in the presence of co-workers is neither cool nor dignified Never   do it whilst attending customers Wear appropriate office   attire,   for example correct footwear, not thongs (flip flops) - they are strictly casual or beachwear No exposed midriff to   display   tattoos and body piercing. Be neat, clean and as   conservative   as the business requires you to be We are put off by   smelly people.   So, be sure to shower regularly and use a suitable deodorant Do not   cough or sneeze   in anyone's direction. Use a tissue, if possible, to contain the germs and then say "Excuse me" The  ...

It usually takes us much longer to change our moods than we’d like it to take. Here are ten things you can do in ten minutes or less that will have a positive emotional effect on you and those you love. 1. Watch "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch. See it online at Oprah.com. This is a deeply moving segment that may be the best ten minutes you've ever invested in front of a computer. 2. Spend a little while watching the sunset with your mate. Nothing extra is necessary. Just sit and take in the natural beauty of the sky and appreciate being able to share it with the one you love. 3. Sit quietly by yourself. It doesn't really matter where or when. Just let your feelings bubble up and then experience the thoughts flowing out of your mind. Clearing your head and heart will give you extra energy to get through the rest of the day. 4. Write a thank you note to your mate. When was the last time you thanked your partner for just being who he or she is and being with you? Doing this in...
