About "Biomarkers - Leading the Way for Personalized Medicine and Drug Development" topic:
Personalized medicine, the practice of catering therapies to the specific genetic profiles of patients and their diseased cells. Fueled by the genetic data and diagnostic tools that emerged in the wake of the decoding of the human genome 10 years ago, personalized medicine is viewed by many in the health care community as a major shift away from the standard approach of developing drugs that work for the largest number of patients in a given therapeutic category, so with the help of bio markers they are able to give treatment for these patients with personalized medicine. So share your thoughts on this..

Not surprisingly, the standards for viable biomarkers are high. Ideally, a diagnostic marker meets seven conditions: 1) it detects a fundamental feature of the disease with high sensitivity and specificity; 2) is validated in post-mortem...

hello friends, This is a very interesting article and a new discovery. So I thought I would share it with you all. Biomarkers of aging identified In a first of its kind study, scientists at the Buck Institute for Age Research have uncovered biomarkers of aging, which can predict both chronological and physiological age. Biomarkers are biochemical features that can be used to measure the progress of disease or the effects of treatment. The scientists conducted the study by using nematode worms, microarrays which measure changes in gene expression, and complex computer algorithms. And they believe that the step could help them identify similar biomarkers in humans, which would provide a means...

Pharmacogenomics is the catalyst for personalized medicine. The pharmacogenomic infrastructure is fueling further growth of personalized medicine. The drug response varies depending on the genetic susceptibility and genetic variations. Herceptin is an antibreast cancer drug that is useful only in Her 2 positive patients. Targeted drug therapy development requires a lot of research, this buffers it from competition. Duplicating rDNA products is not as easy as chemical generics. Moreover, margins are better with biologics. Hence, personalized medicine will see a lot of action. Please also see http://pharmaceuticalshealthcare.blogspot.com/2009/05/el-dorado.html

Biomarkers have proved to be a boon with their ability to reduce cost and time of drug discovery. Many Indian CROs, biopharma companies as well as physicians have now started using biomarkers for the research, treatment and developmental work in therapeutic areas. 'The global biomarkers market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 28.5 percent from $0.63 billion in 2004 to $2.90 billion in 2008,' says Dr Vinod Mattoo, Chief Scientific Officer, Eli Lilly and Company (India). No wonder, despite the early stages of market development, leading drug companies are already responding by investing in biomarker discovery programme. Biomarkers are favoured because they have ...

Hello friends, This is a new breakthrough by scientists at florida.. Chemists at the University of florida have made a breakthrough in the fight against serious diseases, by using a new tool to identify their molecular signatures, without any prior knowledge of what these microscopic signatures or 'biomarkers' should look like. The researchers say that the advance could one day lead to earlier detection and improved treatment of some Type of cancer as well as other diseases. 'With many diseases, the problem has been that we really don't know what to look for. What we've done is create a technique to identify the biomarkers despite that limitation,' said Weihong Tan, a professor of chemistry...

Biotechnology V/s Intellectual Property Intellectual Property is the term used to describe the branch of law, which protects the application of thoughts, ideas, and information, which are of commercial value. It thus covers the law relating to patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets and other similar rights (Cornish, 1989). MODERN BIOTECHNOLOGY -- or "biological engineering," as some have called it -- has excited the imaginations and provoked the concerns of almost every part of society Biotechnology companies and much of the mass media tout advances in modern biotechnology as little less than miraculous. The new techniques of engineering life are said to be responsible for two revolutions in contemporary society: a technological revolution, which promises solutions to hunger and disease, and a productive revolution, which will increase the efficiency of research development and manufacture of new products. Coupled with strong domestic and international intellectual...

I got this beautiful posts on http://www.searchquotes.com/ To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong. The fear of being wrong, different, or socially unaccepted or unpopular is one of the biggest inhibitors to one's creative juices. When a person can do things without worrying what people will think of him, then a person can use their creativity with no limits, and take their work to places they probably would never of imagined going. One of the biggest rules to being creative is to first disregard everyone's opinion. The creativity you have is what makes your work your own, and changing it to fit into someone else's mold would defeat the purpose of it all. Remember when being creative that your work doesn't have to be a pop icon or anything but it has to at some point change society in some way(s). Everyone has their own creative flow and energy, it is all about sticking to your gut feelings, despite the consequences or feelings of hesitance you might...
